Questions/topics assistant editors could potentially bring up at a job interview:

1. According to my post producer friend, this interview is mainly for the

interviewers to know that you are “not a grumpy weirdo.” Demonstrate that
you have a good attitude. You are always reachable. You are no stranger
to long hours, and you have a good work ethic.

2. Say that you love to make sound and music beds. Show that you’ve done
this before. Whether it is trailers, reality shows, short lms, commercials.
This skill will come in useful to back up the editor when needed.

3. Show you are good at troubleshooting. Mention any prior experiences, e.g
if you know ScriptSync, mention that and tell them what about the process
worked for you and what didn’t, any workarounds you found?

4. Mention you know how to do Outputs/Turnovers.

5. Say you always QC cuts before sending out.

6. Say you’re good at temp effects, split screens, green screens, uid
morphs.

7. Bring up speci c points about the show and talk about it. E.g. I’ve watched
your shows and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of VFX, apart from green
screens, TVs, Ipads, Iphones etc, but I know things can be really
imperceptible, so if there anything that would surprise me?

8. Does the show have an established SFX and Music Library that you could
use, or should you plan on bringing your own?

9. Watch a few episodes of the show to generate relevant questions.

10. Say what you like about the show and why it’d be great if you could work
on it.

11. Ask about any speci c needs the show has.

Good Luck!
