College of Education Short Film Creation Competition


In celebration of the Quezon City University 30th Founding Anniversary

A Short Film Festival offers a unique platform showcasing students’ creativity, innovation, and critical
thinking. Aligning the festival in the setting of Science, Technology, and Society, as well as to People
Environment and Ecosystem courses, organizers encourage a holistic understanding of the interrelation
between these fields. Below are the guidelines for creating and competing in a Short Film Festival with a
focus on these crucial aspects:

I. Theme Selection
The themes of the short film must integrate scientific and technological advancements with societal
and environmental impacts as well as incorporate the 30 th founding anniversary theme: “30 Years of
Education for Employment: Transforming Communities for a Sustainable Future”. Filmmakers are
encouraged to explore the intersections between these themes, highlighting the influence of
technology on society and the environment.

II. The Guidelines


1. All short films shall be submitted before the scheduled deadline date and will be part of the
competition. Late submissions of the short films will be only accepted for public screening but
will disqualify them from joining the competition.
2. Only registered names of team members should submit all their creative and artistic endeavors
including but not limited to scriptwriting, directing, shooting, editing, and musical scoring.
Creative and artistic endeavors created by someone not part of the registered team, the film is
disqualified from joining the competition.
3. All scenes captured should be filmed/recorded. The use of already recorded commercials from
TV or radio, music videos, and YouTube videos may be utilized only for props or part of the
background in the scene for the submitted film and follows the copyright law.
4. The short film must at least be five minutes long but not longer than ten minutes in duration,
including opening and closing credits.
5. Short films submitted need to have English subtitles whenever the film language is not in
English.
6. The language, image, and/or content used in the short film should not be offensive and/or
inappropriate. The video should be appropriate for general viewership.
7. Any type of video, DSLR, or cellphone camera capable of filming may be used. Animation and/or
computer graphics are also acceptable.
8. The short film submitted must be played using standard film/video programs such as Windows
Midea Player and/or VLC Player.
9. Short films must not be posted on Reels, TikTok, and/or YouTube or viewed publicly before the
end of the festival.
10. Teams are encouraged to produce an original musical scoring for the short film; however, pre-
recorded music is allowed but these should be properly acknowledged in the credits of the short
film.
11. Short film entries must be submitted on the Google Drive link.
12. Teams failing to follow any of these guidelines will make the entry disqualified.

III. The Competition Rules


1) The Short Film Festival invites participation from all QCU students with an interest in filmmaking.
2) All entrants (director, scriptwriter, crew, videographer, editor, and others) must be enrolled QCU
students and must have his/her parent/guardian sign the form of consent to join the
competition.
3) All entrants must register on or before February 29, 2024. The registration will indicate the
names of the entrants as well as their respective roles. They will identify a team name. A duly
accomplished registration form must be handed to Prof. Melody Cornejo at the Mathematics
and Science Department. A registration form can be obtained from the Mathematics and Science
Department located on the 3rd Floor of the Bautista building in front of the elevator or from Ms.
Karen Manalon of the College of Education located on the 3 rd Floor of the Bautista building near
the stairs or the glass door on the right side of the elevator.
4) All entrants (the Team) must join/attend activities related to the QCU 30 th founding anniversary
such as but not limited to workshops, promotional tours, etc.
5) If a team must withdraw from the competition, it has to be expressed in writing not later than
March 4, 2024.
6) Upon signing the Registration Form, participants consent to comply with both the competition
rules, film guidelines, and the decisions made by the panel of judges.
7) The College of Education and the Mathematics and Science Department retain the authority to
disqualify any team not adhering to the competition rules and film guidelines.
8) The College of Education and the Mathematics and Science Department reserve the right to
modify the competition rules at any point, ensuring proper communication to all participants.
9) Submission of the final short film entry must be completed by 5:00 PM on March 4, 2024.
