CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter includes the research design, research instrument, data gathering

procedure and etc.

Research Design

This study specifically denotes the objective of the research, which is to evaluate

the perception of students about food waste as a resource for biogas production. The

researcher will use descriptive research design in collecting the data from respondents.

The design is preferred because it is concerned with answering questions such as who,

how, what, which, when and how much (Cooper and Schindler 2008). A descriptive

investigation is Thoroughly, planned to guarantee a comprehensive portrayal of the

circumstance, aiming to minimize bias during data collection and lessen errors in

interpreting the gathered data.

Population and Sampling Technique

The respondents will be the students of Grade 11 STEM of DCMMMNHS in the

town of San Fernando, Romblon. The population of this study is 58 students. The

researchers will also use purposive sampling in order to create an accurate data as much

as possible. The sample of this study is also 58 students the same as the total population.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study will be the whole population of 58 students from

Grade 11 STEM students for a reliable data.

Research Locale and Time of the Study

The research study will be conducted in DCMMMNHS at Barangay Panangcalan,

San Fernando, Romblon during the 2nd Semester of the school year 2023-2024.

Research Instrument

The research instrument that will be used is a survey questionnaire. The

researchers will construct a series of questions that tests the perception of the students on

converting food waste into biogas using the 5 points Likert Scale ranging from a Strongly

Agree to Strongly Disagree.

Validation of Instrument

The instrument will be validated by three validators which are composed of two

subject matter experts and a grammarian before giving to the panelists on the proposal

defense and by the adviser before the final defense. Then, the three validators will

validate the constructed survey questionnaire to check any grammatical errors and for

suggesting better question.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers will submit a letter of permission to the Research Adviser, School

Principal, and Senior High School Coordinator to conduct the study. Then, the

researchers will administer the validated questionnaire to the respondents.

The questionnaire will be distributed to every participant as for the requirements

of the amount of the sample size.

Statistical Treatment

The data from the survey questionnaires will be collected and categorized

according to their purpose. Data will be summarized into tables and tabulated to arrive at

a weighted mean to facilitate in organizing them into tables with interpretation.
