I. Outcomes
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
● Define verbal and their phrase;
● Identify the three types of Verbals and their functions; and
● Enumerate the functions of gerunds and infinitives.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: The Three Kinds of Verbals: Participle, Gerunds & Infinitives
Concepts: A verbal is a word that formed from a verb but is used as a noun, an adjective,
or an adverb. A verbal is a verb that functions as another part of speech in a sentence.
There are three types of verbals: gerunds, participles, and infinitives.

Activity Mechanics:

● The teacher will let the student choose their own word flaglets
● The teacher will present 10 boxes with a short passage on screen.
● The students must identify the box which fits their word flaglets.
● The students will be given three (3) minutes to select their box.
● After three (3) minutes, the teacher will read the first passage and ask the
student/s to raise their flag if the word flaglet fits the passage.

D. Abstraction
● The teacher will introduce the topic to the learners about “The Three Kinds of
Verbals: Participle, Gerunds & Infinitives”
● The teacher will discuss the concept of verbals including the three different types;
Participle, Participial phrases, Gerund, Gerundial Phrases, Infinitive, Infinitive
Phrases.
● Finally, the teacher will summarize the entire topic to the learners to assure that
they understand the lesson.

Directions: Instructions: Identify the highlighted words; whether participle, infinitive or

gerund.

Directions: Construct 5 sentences using gerunds and 5 sentences using infinitives. Underline the
verbals and write their functions after each sentence.
