Diarrhea

Treatment:
When there’s a blood in stool, they should avoid taking anti-diarrheal medication

Because antiperistaltic agents decrease gastrointestinal motility, they may delay the excretion of
infective gastroenteric organisms or toxins and should be used cautiously in patients with any
infectious diarrhea, particularly if accompanied by high fever or pus or blood in the stool.

decreasing the flow of fluids and electrolytes into the bowel and slowing down the
movement of the bowel to decrease the number of bowel movements. This allows more
fluid to be absorbed into your body which helps in having less diarrhea

● Advise the mother on feeding a child who has Persistent Diarrhea - bananas, rice,
applesauce and toast) as a solution to help children with diarrhea and to reduce
the amount of animal milk in the child's diet temporarily because they may have
difficulty in digesting a animal milk
● 6-7 feeds per day should be offered with a total daily energy intake of 75 Kcal/kg
of actual body weight / day.
● Giving multivitamins and minerals (including zinc) for 14 days - helps your
immune system and metabolism function.

Dysentery
Ciprofloxacin - Antibiotic
● Give ciprofloxacin for 3 days - Ciprofloxacin kills certain types of bacteria by
disrupting their ability to create and repair their DNA.

Side effects - Nausea, vomiting, & headache

calcium channel blockers


Amlodipine - treatment for angina & highblood
Side effects - fatigue, drowsiness, and nausea
5 - 10 mg per day

Angiotensin receptor blockers


Losartan - used to decreased the risk of stroke and highblood, kidney disease and type 2
diabetes
Cannot use if you’re pregnant and kidney disease
50 mg per day
