The Navotas-Malabon river, the city's largest body of water, is heavily polluted. The annual
concentration of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) exceeds the standard of water quality
ten times. The city is the entire Malabon-Navotas-Tullahan-Tinajeros (MaNaTuTi) river
basin. industries located in the watershed of the river from Quezon City to Malabon and
Navotas reduced the water quality to Class D, which can be unpleasant for aquatic life.
According to the National Water Resources Board (NWRB), there are 421 significant rivers
in the nation and 18 major river basins (emb.gov.ph, 2019).

Rivers are one of the main water sources in The Philippines, and one of it is Batasan River.
But these rivers tend to be polluted because of people who throws their trash in the bodies of
water (factories, people, etc.,). The primary causes of 43% of the pollution in 421 rivers or
180 of it, are untreated household sewage, industrial waste, and agricultural waste. 56% (13
out of 23) of the water systems for public water supply in 2021 had fecal coliform levels over
recommended levels. Since these days, people often wastewater and some are not even aware
of those. By this device it can be beneficial for saving water. The water that undergoes
through the device will be tested whether there are any difference after the process. Water that
is gathered in the device can be used for cleaning, watering plants, etc.,

With the use of an Arduino UNO sensor, the researchers will be able to build a low-cost
and accessible water filtering system with water quality monitoring device for saving our
rivers a. Arduino is a freely available electronics platform built on user-friendly hardware and
software; low-cost material that helps for programming and experimenting about robotics.
This is mostly used in schools where teachers and pupils will use this for their research.
Arduino creates interactive prototypes by Architects and designers. (arduino,cc., 2023). The
internet of things, or IoT, is a network of connected objects that communicates with the use of
internet or mobile devices to share data. IoT devices, which can include consumer goods and
both digital and mechanical machinery, are often incorporated with technology such as
sensors and software (Gillis, 2023). An Arduino-based water filtering modification
experiment utilizing Iot and manual controls for water quality monitoring will be carried out
by Malabon National High School researchers.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The researcher aims to develop an Arduino Uno-based water filtering system with an
integrated water quality monitoring system for Tanza Navotas river. This study seeks to
address the following questions.

1. What is the pH level, turbidity, and TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) measurements of the
water sample from the Tanza River before it undergoes filtration?
2. What is the pH level, turbidity, and TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) measurements of the
water sample from the Tanza River after it undergoes filtration?
3. Is there any significant difference in the pH level, turbidity, and TDS (Total Dissolved
Solids) measurements of the water sample from the Tanza River before and after
undergoing filtration?

HYPOTHESES
Ho = There are no significant changes in the pH and turbidity quality after going to the
filtering device.
Ha = There is a significance in the pH and turbidity quality after going through the
filtering device.

OBJECTIVES
The study aims to illustrate these specific objectives:
 Create a water filtration system using Arduino to reduce the turbidity of Batasan river
water, for non-potable uses such as hand washing or cleaning.
 Create a turbidity monitoring sensor for water clarity measurement and control, to
ensure the effectiveness of turbidity reduction.

 Evaluate the effectiveness of the water filtration system based on its abilities such as
filtration rate, turbidity, and to lessen the acidity of water.
 Perform testings and evaluations of the turbidity monitoring system to ensure its
accuracy, sensitivity, and reliability to detect changes in water clarity.
 Evaluate the developed system by exploring its suitability for non-potable uses such as
hand washing and cleaning with the aim of improving hygiene and sanitation practices
in the community.
 Investigate the feasibility of deploying an Arduino-based water filtration system in
various environments, including remote or resource-limited areas, considering factors
such as power requirements, maintenance needs, and user-friendliness for a
sustainable implementation.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The outcome of this study benefits the following:
Local Community: By developing an Arduino-based water filter system for the Tanza
Navotas River with an integrated water quality monitoring system, we can address the
pressure water problem. pollution in the area. This technology provides community access to
clean and safe drinking water that protects public health and reduces the incidence of
waterborne diseases.

Environmental Conservation Efforts: The implementation of such a system will not only
improve the water quality of local residents but will also contribute to the protection of the
Tanza Navotas River and its surrounding ecosystem. By monitoring and filtering water
pollution, the harmful effects of pollution on aquatic organisms can be mitigated and the
diversity of the river ecosystem can be preserved.

Future Research and Innovation: This study is a valuable resource for future research and
innovation in water treatment and quality control systems. This provides a framework for
further research to improve water filtration technologies and integrate advanced monitoring
systems for real-time data analysis and management. Future researchers can build on this
foundation to develop more effective and sustainable solutions to water quality problems in
different environments.

For Researchers: This study will benefit and assist the researchers in learning more about
how Arduino UNO-based technology works, as well as expanding and testing its possibilities.
It can also help the researchers learn more about the people's environment and how we can
contribute to its improvement.
