PARTS OF THE COMPASS
Handle – usually half an inch long.
Users can grip it between their
pointer finger and thumb.
Hinge – The screw on the hinge
holds the two legs in its position. It
can be adjusted depending on
desired stiffness. The tighter the
screw, the better the performance of
the compass.
Compass Needle - It is the point
that is placed at the center of the
circle. The pencil tip is turned
around this point.
Pencil Holder - A sharp pencil is
clamped tightly at this place. The tip
of the pencil is aligned to the
compass needle by bringing the tip
of the pencil and compass needle
closer.
Here are the steps in
drawing a circle using a
compass:

Step 1: Choose a
measurement for the
circle to be drawn.
Step 2: Place the sharp
point of the compass at
the center of the intended
circle.

1.
Step 3: Press down the
needle, turn the knob at
the top of the compass
to draw a circle, and
drag the pencil around
the center to draw the
circle through 360°.
