Executive Summary
Opportunity
Problem
With the general passage of time and heavy influence of globalization, particularly western culture,
much of Jamaica’s cultural heritage & traditional art forms have died out or are on the verge of
disappearing. Additionally, anything “cultural” has become somewhat socially taboo and there is a
broader social sentiment that folk art is the work of the uneducated, rural & sometimes older artists
and as such aren’t considered ‘real art.’
Solution
JCC will be the centre (mecca) for the active perpetuation of Jamaican culture and traditional arts
through an out-of-many lens. We believe that by learning the meanings, diverse origins, and
techniques of traditional arts and traditions, we gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of
our people and culture.
Our objectives:
• revive aspects of our cultural heritage in ways that dispel stigmas, promote reconnection and
active continuity through long-term practice & knowledge-sharing, whilst instilling national
pride
• spur personal creativity
• build community prosperity & social mobility
• contribute to an enduring authenticity of national identity and Brand Jamaica
This will be achieved through a mix of recreational workshops, vocational certifications, product
development, special events & strategic collaborations.

Market
The creative industry includes music, craft, cuisine, fashion, fine arts, publishing, film and video,
advertising, architecture and other creative goods and services. Globally, it accounts for more than
7% of the world’s GDP.
While there have been very few attempts to comprehensively value the cultural and creative
industries in Jamaica, in 2005, the economic contribution of the copyright-based industries to
Jamaica's GDP was valued at 4.8 per cent. Jamaica's cultural and creative industries have since been
estimated to bring in J$2.2 billion annually (5.2 per cent of GDP).
The performance and creative artist industry in the US has grown 4.1% year over year between 2017
and 2022. Given the high level of global fascination and visibility of the Jamaican culture, there is a
strong domestic and international market for creatives who wish to take a deep dive into various
forms of our culture, that is uniquely Jamaican.
The demographic spans the age range of primary school age children to the elderly.
Competition
There are a few formal educational institutions such as the Edna Manley School of the Visual and
Performing Arts, the University of Technology & the University of the West Indies that offer
certificate and diploma courses in the creative arts with some exposure to indigenous folk art
concepts, as well as cultural organizations like JBDC and IOJ that offer one-off workshops in the
traditional arts, but no one offers dedicated, regular courses in the traditional arts and cultural
practices.
JAMECCA views the entities as collaborative partners. Students can supplement their degree
pursuits with applicable traditional art courses.
We will offer regular and flexible course schedules with the primary focus of creating a uniquely
interactive environment in which Jamaicans, at home and abroad, of all ages, ability and experience
can feel free to imagine and learn their culture and include that knowledge in their lives.

This environment will also appeal to visitors, without regard to racial, educational, or economic
background.
Expectations
Forecast
We are projecting sales of US$35,000 in year 1 and US$85,000 in year 2 with a profit margin of 15-
20%. That assumes we can deliver physical and virtual workshops to 100 customers annually, with
an average price of $US100-$US199 per customer. Our Founder will draw only minimal salaries,
starting in month 3, so we can reinvest our profits into expanding the course offering and growing
the business.
Financing Needed
We are seeking to put in place a US$13,000 line of credit, to be used only as needed.
