Quarter 2 – Module 4
ARCS and INSCRIBED ANGLES
About the Module
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
master the skills in solving problems involving ARCS and INSCRIBED ANGLES.
The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different learning
situations. The language used in this module recognizes your diverse vocabulary
level. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But
the order in which you read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook
you are now using.

CIRCLE
What I Need to Know
At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:
1. identify Inscribed angles and their intercepted arcs;
2. find the measure of an inscribed angle and its intercepted arc; and
3. find the measure of an inscribed angle given the measure of a central
angle intercepting the same arc.
What’s In
What’s New
Refer to the figure at the left, the triangle inside
the circle is equilateral.
What Is It
Definition of Inscribed Angle
An inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex lies on the
circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle.
5
The intercepted arc is the arc that lies in the interior of
an inscribed angle and has endpoints on the angle.
Example 1 Identify the inscribed angles and the arc intercepted by each.
Solution:
Inscribed angles
̂
∠ 𝐶𝐴𝐵 and ∠ 𝐶𝐵𝐷 intercept 𝐶𝐷
̂
∠ 𝐴𝐶𝐵 and ∠ 𝐴𝐷𝐵 intercept 𝐴𝐵
Solution:
1
𝑚 ∠𝐴𝐶𝐵 = ̂
𝐴𝐵
2
1
𝑚 ∠𝐴𝐶𝐵 = (1240 )
2
𝑚 ∠𝐴𝐶𝐵 = 620
Example 3 ̂ ?
What is the measure of 𝑋𝑌
Solution:
̂ = 2 𝑚 ∠ 𝑋𝑍𝑌
𝑚 𝑋𝑌
̂ = 2 (700 )
𝑚 𝑋𝑌
̂ = 1400
𝑚 𝑋𝑌

measures of arcs CB, CD, and BD.

What’s New
The following corollaries tell us how the measure of an inscribed angle
is related to the measure of the intercepted arc.
What are Corollaries?
8
What Is It
Corollary 1 of the Inscribed Angle
An angle inscribed in a semicircle is a right angle.
Example 1
̂ = 1100 , find
In circle C, m 𝐴𝐵
̂ and m ∠DAB
m 𝐴𝐷
Solution:
∠DAB is inscribed in a semicircle, so
∠DAB is a right angle whose measure is 900 .
m ∠𝐃𝐀𝐁 𝟗𝟎𝟎 =
̂ = 𝟏𝟖𝟎𝟎 − 𝟏𝟏𝟎𝟎 = 𝟕𝟎𝟎
m 𝑨𝑫
Proof of Corollary 1
STATEMENTS REASONS G

m𝐵𝐺𝐷 The degree measure of a
semicircle is 180o.
1 The measure of an

inscribed angle is one-
half the measure of the
intercepted arc
1 Substitution
𝑚∠𝐷𝐴𝐵= (180o) = 90o
2

Corollary 2 of the Inscribed Angle
Angles inscribed in the same arc are equal.
Example 2
∠𝑸𝑷𝑺 ≅ ∠𝑸𝑻𝑺
𝒎∠𝑨 + ∠𝑪 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎𝟎
𝒎∠𝑩 + ∠𝑫 = 𝟏𝟖𝟎𝟎
Example 3
Solution:
