The story begins in 2007, Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton) becomes CEO of Mirando Corporation, replacing
her controversial grandfather, defeating her father and his ruthless twin sister Nancy (also played by
Tilda Swinton). He announces that his company has developed a special breed of super pig. Twenty-six
of the best pigs will be sent to various locations around the world, and ten years later, someone will be
crowned the winner.

Ten years later, in 2017, a young girl named Mija (Ahn Seo-hyun) lives happily in rural South Korea with
her grandfather, Heebong (Byun Hee-bong), and his super pig, Okja. They are visited by Mirawan
spokesman and chemist Dr. Johnny Wilcox (Jake Gyllenhaal), who declares that Okja is the best super
pig and he will take her to New York City. Mija's grandfather takes her to visit her parents' grave where
he presents her with a golden pig and explains to her that the gold is to buy Okja, she saves the money
and brings her gold items for Okja. Mija fled to Seoul to find Okja. There she sees Okja being loaded onto
a truck. Mija manages to catch up with the truck which is eventually intercepted by another truck, run
by the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). They are rescued by the ALF. They realize that Mija is Okja's owner,
they plan to put a recording device in Okja's ear and have her recaptured by Mirando's company to
prove how brutally they treat animals. Mija tells them to return her to the mountains but their
translator, K (Steven Yeun), deliberately lies, causing the group to believe that Mija is following her plan.
They leave her and Okja is devastated.

Meanwhile, video footage of Okja and Mija doing various mischief on the streets of Seoul has spread
and gone viral. To do damage control, Lucy pays Mija to come to New York to be reunited on stage with
her pig. Okja is taken to a lab in New Jersey, where she is force-fed with other super pigs and chunks of
meat are removed from her flesh to be taste-tested by a drunken Wilcox (Jake Gyllenhaal). ALF
members hear the voice recordings through a device they put in Okja's ear. After ALF sees the forced
breeding, K reveals that he deliberately lied to the rest of the group about Mija's support of the plan to
bring Ojka to New York to continue the mission. Jay (Paul Dano) angrily beats K, and at the same time
expels him from the ALF, for deliberately misinterpreting Mija's speech approval. Jay vows to help Okja
and Mija and uses the footage to expose the Mirando corporation's animal abuse.

In New York, Mija spends her time learning English and is forced to acquiesce to Mirando Corporation's
wishes. Jay, the leader of the ALF, walks into her room and tells her that they still plan to save Okja while
on stage during a big parade held by the Mirando Corporation, which gives out free meat on the street.
Mija is reunited with Okja. But a blind and battered Okha doesn't recognize Mija and attacks her. In the
ensuing chaos, Jay tries to hurt Okja, but Mija prevents him. Mija calms Okja down so that she
recognizes Mija. A video of Wilcox's treatment of Okja is shared by ALF for public viewing. Mija and the
ALF attempt to flee with Okja, but Nancy arrives back and quickly takes over Corporation Mirando,
reclaiming Okja and having the ALF members beaten and arrested by their private security and the
NYPD. Nancy shut down the lab, pulled all of Lucy's promotional marketing, and began full-time
operations at their slaughterhouse. Jay and Mija are rescued by K, who has a 'holy translation' tattooed
on his arm.

Then, Jay and K invite Mija to find Okja at the mass slaughterhouse. The group searches for Okja but
can't find her until Mija sees her climb into the slaughterhouse. To save Okja, she then walks through
the slaughterhouse and sees many dead super pigs. Mija sees Okja as Okja is about to be slaughtered
and shows employee Mirando a photo of her with baby Okja. The man seems to move, but Nancy comes
and tells Mija and the slaughterman that Okja needs to be slaughtered immediately. Mija then offers a
golden pig to Nancy in exchange for Okja's safety. Nancy agrees and the deal is struck, while later
arresting Jay and K. As Mija and Okja leave, they see more pigs being brought to the slaughterhouse. A
pair of super pigs manage to push their baby over the fence, and Okja hides the baby in her mouth to
retrieve it.

Back in the countryside, Mija resumes her life once again with her grandfather, Okja, and the new piglet.
Jay is released from prison and gets on a bus with K and other members of the organization, who reveal
that ALF will be attending a big meeting involving all Mirando shareholders.
