-For past actions (with a time reference)


-I played football yesterday/on Monday/at
9pm/last week.
-When the time is asked about: When did you
eat? -What time was the movie?
-For past habits: I played every
day/Monday/week at 9am

Past continuous
-For past continuous that continued for a
period of time but limits/amount are not
known.
-They were losing the game
-If used without a time reference, it indicates a
gradual development:
-The sun was mising.
-The water was falling.
-If used with a time reference, it indicates the
action started before and probably continues
after that time
-This morning my brother was eating
breakfast.
-It was raining at 8am
