Preface
• EPRI has been established by the Presidential Decree no.541 for the year 1974, as one of
the research institutes following the Ministry of Scientific Research, headed by his
Excellency Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the aim of supplying
the national petroleum industry with studies, scientific research work, consultations,
analytical and technical services individually or together with other parties.
• France has thankfully contributed to the erection of EPRI by supplying It with a number
of lacking laboratory appliances and scientific equipment. The French Petroleum Research
Institute (IFP) has contributed a lot in the form of consultancy, nurturing of a number of
researchers and technical personnel within IFP, besides carrying out a number of joint
research projects with EPRI.
• In compliance with the Presidential Decree, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of
EPRI is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian General Petroleum
Corporation (EGPC). Furthermore a number of the senior personnel within the petroleum
sector as nominated by his Excellency, the Minister of Petroleum, joined the Board of
EPRI.
3 EPRI www.epri.sci.eg
• Since its establishment in 1976 up to the present time, EPRI organization includes
7 research departments which cover the different activities of the oil and gas sectors.
• By increasing research activities and the development of a number of research findings to the
application stage, EPRI started to establish service centers. Presently, EPRI houses 9 service
centers, offering their services to different petroleum industry sectors.

3 Training
• EPRI runs various training programs for EPRI personnel, individuals from the different
industry sectors, students and graduates of local and Arab universities.
4 Information
• An increasing number of scientific publications and reports are available at EPRI library.
Moreover EPRI receives a number of scientific magazines. Copies of the M.Sc. and Ph.D.
granted works are also available.
• EPRI library services are available to the personnel of the petroleum industry as well as the
Egyptian universities staff and students. Internet services are also accessible to EPRI
personnel.
5 Scientific Publications
• The number of scientific contributions either published and /or presented to local, regional, or
international journals and conferences is over (2500) since 1974 until 2009.
• EPRI started to issue the Egyptian Journal of Petroleum since 1992. In September 2008, it has
been accredited. (Chemical Abstracts: CA69639-ISSN 1110-0621) . In the year 2011, The
Egyptian Journal of Petroleum was published and hosted by El-Sevier. An electronic version
was available since 2011, serving as a forum for research and development. We, The Journal
published four issues annually.
6 Conferences Activities
• EPRI personnel takes part in organizing a big number of conferences.
• EPRI takes part in organizing and hosting a number of conferences and seminars e.g. ( The
International Conference on Petroleum, Mineral Resources and Development ) which is
1 annually held at EPRI.
7 Accreditation According to ISO/IEC 17025:2005
• The Central Analytical Lab. and Chemicals Services and Development Center succeeded to
get the accreditation according to ISO/IEC 17025:2005. Other labs and centers are on their
way to get this accreditation. We, EPRI, by God`s will, intended to obtain the accreditation of
( ISO 9001, SOON).
8 The Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Management System
• EPRI labs and specialized service centers have succeeded to obtain the two certificates;
(ISO14001:2004) and (OHSAS 18001 : 2007 ) after the estimation was done by an
internationally accredited German organization.
