- Showing a tendency to disagree or argue

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

- Aims to make readers agree with the writer’s opinion about controversial or debatable issue

- Proposal – proposes solution to a certain problem


- Causal – focuses on how something had led to a problem
- Definition – controversial term or concept
- Narrative – a story that is presented in a chronological order to make some kind of point
- Evaluation – good/bad of a product but establish a good/bad criteria about it
- Rebuttal – response to another argument

- Idea about which the opinions of people are different

CLAIM

- A position, stand or point of view

- Idea given by the opposing side against claim

- Response to the counterclaim

defend a position

INFORMATIVE ESSAY

- Provides information and explanation in a straightforward manner

WRITING TECHNIQUES

- Description - Explains
- Comparison and Contrast – similarities or differences
- Problem and Solution – present problem then propose a solution
- Cause-Effect – explains and analyze why it happened or how it occurred
- Sequence – series of events or process
