The importance of trees for the environment can often be undermined, as highlighted

by a song entitled "Trees" recorded several years ago. However, recent initiatives
to plant 80,000 trees in one particular area are a positive step towards balancing
the need for economic development alongside the requirement for trees to sustain
life on the planet. The importance of trees in conserving soil is emphasised, as is
the need for humans to build around existing vegetation rather than clearing land,
which results in diminished oxygen production and soil erosion. Planting trees is
one way in which young people can be taught to act as stewards of the planet,
thereby not disadvantaging later generations.

The song "Trees" is a reminder of the majesty and importance of trees in our
environment. However, the significance of trees is often overlooked as they are
continually cleared for agricultural purposes or replaced by concrete buildings.
Although we need land for food and housing, trees are essential for the planet's
survival and the conservation of shallow soil. The importance of the environment
should be taught to younger generations to ensure that the future is not
disadvantaged. Steps are being taken to plant at least 80,000 trees in a tree-
planting project. The project is an example of how people can be taught what is
required to act as responsible stewards of the planet.
