“PASADO SIMPLE”
What is the past simple for?

We use the past simple to express that something has ended or been completed,
and that the period of time in which it occurred has also ended. It is sometimes
confused with the present perfect, but, unlike this, in the past simple the distance
between the moment in which what is narrated happened and the current moment
is clearly marked.

To express events or states that happened in the distant or near past.

Furthermore, although we have already said that the period in which they develop
is not significant, it must be stated that said situation or action has ended.

For example:

In 2015 the company doubled in size

(Answers)

1. I listened to your message last night.

2. I tried to convince him but he refused to listen.
3. I woke up at five o’clock this morning (aunque todavía es el día de hoy, las
hora actual).
4. Did you see the new director yesterday?
5. I’m sorry - I didn’t do my homework (aquí, además del “didn’t” que como
6. Why was he late for the game?
7. Respuesta: b. played

He played basketball on Saturday morning → él jugó baloncesto el sábado por

8. Respuesta: a. watched

She watched a movie at the theater → ella vio una película en el teatro.

9. Respuesta: c. ate

We ate pizza for dinner last night → Nosotros comimos pizza en la cena anoche.

10. Respuesta: c. went

You went to the beach in July → Tú fuiste a la playa en julio.

El verbo go (ir) es irregular. Su forma en pasado es went.

11. Respuesta: b. cleaned

We cleaned the kitchen two days ago → Nosotros limpiamos la cocina hace dos

12. I was not a teacher.

13.They were having a party.
14.We were delighted to see him.
15.He was still sleeping.
16.She was a bit scared.
17.You were not in the list.
18.It was not a cat.
19.You were all at school
