I hope you have been enjoying looking over some of the great patterns from the past 40 years as much as we havel In this issue, not only do we bring you outstanding designs from some of the best crochet designers, but we have also included two patterns from past issues that are still “crochet worthy.” The Striped Overalls pattern is just as cute as it was when it was featured in the June 1994 issue! And all we had to do to the Gingham Place Mat & Coaster set was freshen up the colors to make it just as appealing for today’s crocheter. In this issue we asked designers to use a traditional crochet technique, such as Bruges lace, to create something new and unexpected. Our Crochet With a Twist chapter features five awesome designs that incorporate filet crochet, Tunisian crochet, Love knots and Bruges lace to create fashion accessories and home decor you will not only enjoy making, but be proud to show off! We alll love crocheting quick and practical projects, and our Happy Days Kitchen chapter is filled with designs you'll find yourself adding to your crochet to-do list. A set of cotton towels with veggie appliqués, a toaster cover with matching pot holders, a customizable join-as-you-go motif curtain, and a place mat set all in on-trend vintage colors are sure to add a touch of whimsy to your home! Of course, feel free to use a color combination that fits your taste and decor! ‘Two gorgeous throws, a beautiful sunflower doily, a handy basket and a pretty wrap round out this issue, so grab your crochet hooks and dig in! Teach Someone to Crochet! Many of us have fond memories of learning to crochet from our grandmother or mom. Passing on the love of crochet and teaching the next generation the joy of creating something of beauty means the art of crochet will be enjoyed by future generations. Rita Foudray recently wrote to tell us how she passed on her love of crochet. “Many years ago, my aunt Catherine taught me to crochet when | was ‘9 years old, In turn, I taught my granddaughter, Marie, to crochet when she was 9 years old! Now a college graduate, Marie is still crocheting!” Rita taught her then 9-year-old granddaughter, Marie, to crochet. Rita (left) and her granddaughter, Marie Kadesky, (ight) still crochet together. It wasn't until years later, when I joined a local guild, that | met people who helped me to hone my skills. For many years, | was a professional finisher of crocheted and knitted items. It kept me quite busy, and there was little time to develop designs of my own. In 2016, | became a full-time designer and was able to devote the time to this new career. Little did | know that | was not leaving the old career behind, as finishing is such a crucial part of the process and one that | truly enjoy. | love all things crochet. Itis what relaxes me at the end of a busy day. My idea of a good time is going through stitch pattern books and just swatching, swatching, swatching! DESIGNER'S TIPS + When making the V-stitch, placing it into the 4th chain of the chain-7, instead of under the chain-7, will give a crisper finish to your pattern design. Both pieces are worked exactly the same. Left- and right-side neck shaping applies to both pieces. + Blocking before seaming will open up the pattern and help you to see the path for seaming better. + Eliminate extra ends and bulk by leaving a long tail to be later used for seaming when beginning or fastening off each piece. 12 Crochet World crocverwortocom aucusr201e se, ch 3] across, 2 de in 4th ch of beg ch-7, turn.
