PMAL101: Cross-Cultural

Communication
Unit 8: Theories and Research in Cross-Cultural
Communication

What do you understand about how people think and behave across cultural
contexts?

Refer to Figure 2.3 found in this chapter (or within the Resources tab in this
activity) and provide your views or personal experiences on how people
behave in high vs. low cultural contexts.
Response:

In low context cultures people are direct with their intentions during work and
conversations like if they do not want to do something they will confront instead of
making excuses to avoid any type of con icts like in high context cultures. Apart from it,
the status of a person in the former is determined by their experience and the
quali cations they possess which is not in the case of latter where the status of a person is
de ned on the basis of their position as well as the authority they have in the organization.
