A) USAGE
DIRECT SPEECH REPORTED SPEECH
The exact words someone said. Someone tells us what someone else said.
“I play football,” she said. She said (that) she played football.

B) FORM
SAY +SOMETHING TELL+SOMEONE+SOMETHING
She said (that) she played football. She told me (that) she played football.
