The objective of the document is to enhance knowledge on how to

use serial number profile in SAP S/4 HANA Embedded EWM

Basic terminologies should be known to do the configuration.

What is serial number management? Serial number management is the process with which you can
uniquely identify the individual products inside the warehouse for all the warehouse process.

What is harmonized serial number profile? Here we define single serialization profile that is
assigned to Plant/PETD level, not at warehouse level.System reads the serialization profile from
material master,not at product master.

What is non harmonized serial number profile? Here we define two serialization number, namely
warehouse dependent(applicable for all warehouses) and warehouse independent.System always
searches for the warehouse dependent first.

At what level serial number can be maintained? Serial number can be maintained at Document
item level,warehouse level and IM level.

What is provisional serial number? System expects serial number before goods receipt/issue if serial
number is set at warehouse/IM. In this case,system set serial number in prior and replace it with
actual one when we processing it.
