The month of May is the LAND TRANSPORTAION SAFETY & PREVENTION MONTH based on Presidential
Proclamation No. 115-A. In connection to this, we have reviewed the data of the Metro Manila
Development Authority on Road Accidents for 2018.

Quezon City records the highest number of road crashes followed by Manila and Makati. By comparing
the data, it shows that the number of road crashes is proportional to the land mass, population and
development. Pateros records the lowest number of car crashes and together with the City of San Juan
they have zero fatalities on the recorded accidents.

Based on the same data, cars were involved in most of the accidents in Metro Manila with a total count
of 101,143, followed by Motorcycles with 25,398.

The top causes of accidents are driving under the influence of liquor, mechanical error and the top most
is human error.

Having the top cause is human error followed by mechanical errors, means this can be prevented.

Always check the following before driving:

Brakes, Lights, Oil, Water, Batteries, Air, Gas, Engine, Tires, Self

The last is the most important. You have to ask yourself if you are in a good condition to drive. Do you
have enough sleep? Do you have alcohol intake? Are you tired? Are you sleepy? Are you stressed? Are
you bothered by problems? If you answer “Yes” to at least one of these questions, maybe it is best to
commute or join a car pool.
