CONS1010 Assignment 1 Climate Change and Sustainability Project
CONS1010 Assignment 1 Climate Change and Sustainability Project
Assessment Brief:
1) Clearly read and understand the Student Learning Outcomes of this Assessment (see above)
2) Use the following 2 statements as the “main thread” throughout your Report:
Statement 1
“The ways in which we build, manage and use infrastructure have contributed significantly
towards everyday carbon emissions. Infrastructure makes up around 70% of the world’s carbon
emissions and, to put it simply, that can’t continue. If infrastructure existing today tells us one
thing: it is that there has been a previous neglect for the environmental consequences of human
contributions through carbon emissions. The existence of infrastructure in cities globally,
through transportation and housing, to the development and urban design of the way we make
up cities, is in desperate need of overhaul.” Joshua Farnsworth is a carbon reduction engineer at
Tunley Engineering.
Statement 2
3) “With the majority of the themes of COP26 directly linked to civil engineering, the industry is
key to enabling sustainable development pathways for the wider economy. Civil engineers are
not only well-positioned to lead on the necessary paradigm shift, but also have a professional
duty to do so.”
The above policy statement was produced after Holstovs, who's also
been accredited as a UN observer for COP26, attended the first-ever
UN Youth4Climate Pre-COP26 summit in Milan as a representative of
Latvia.
Students must refer to The Marking Scheme and Rubric for further
details on the requirements for this Report.
