EPISODE 1
PREPARING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

I. INTRODUCTION
Instructional materials are also known as instructional aids that facilitate the effective delivery
of the content or information conveyed within a course. They hold the power to either engage
or demotivate learners. This is the reason why instructional materials have to be tailored to the
content and to the learners. When they are prepared aligned with the objectives and learning
activities they can efficiently and effective help attain the learning outcomes. Bear in mind that
learners learn best if all their senses are engaged in learning.

II. LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of this episode the student should be able to:

1. prepare instructional materials to support teaching and learning

engagement;

2. provide indigenous and localized instructional material for classroom

use; and

3. create accessible course materials.

III. TASKS

Inquire from your resource teacher as to the materials he/she wants you to prepare. Remember,
that when creating instructional materials, it is essential to make sure all students can access
them. Thus, instructional aids must be carefully planned, selected, organized, refined, and used.

1. Identify the types of print materials and audio-visual media needed for various purposes in
the classroom.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS PURPOSE FOR USE

Print Materials: hand outs, textbooks, lesson Allow readers to focus entirely on the content
plans, assignments, rubrics without digital distractions, leading to better
comprehension and a more immersive
experience.
Digital Media: audio, video, movie clips, etc. It's useful for enhancing web platforms,
creating video chat applications, creating
advertisements and communicating on social
media sites.
Presentation Materials:Lecture Notes, Using PowerPoint can help you present
Powerpoint, Prezi, etc. information in multiple ways (a multimodal
approach) through the projection of color,
images, and video for the visual mode.
Case Studies/Scenarios Case studies and scenario-based assessments
allow students to apply their theoretical
knowledge to a real organizational issue.
They're powerful learning tools requiring
learners to draw from their own experiences
and skills to analyze and respond to a
situation.
Educational Games Studies show that playing games in the
classroom can increase overall motivation.
Students become more motivated to learn, pay
attention, and participate in-class activities.
Role Plays Role playing exercises encourage students to
think more critically about complex and
controversial subjects and to see situations
from a different perspective. When properly
employed, role plays can motivate students in
a fun and engaging way.
Open Educational Resources(Online textbooks, Any student who has a digital book at school
online articles, etc.) can follow the lessons at their own pace.
Students can easily browse the course index or
instantly search for main terms or chapter
titles.
Websites The educational website is used as a platform
for distance learning in schools and other
educational institutions in modern conditions.
2. Gathering Instructional Materials from various sources. Start gathering from various sources
all the needed instructional materials by your Resource Teacher. Have a checklist of the
