Objective: To grasp different ways in which vocabulary can be taught; to understand what actually happens in the classroom when teaching
vocabulary/grammar; to understand the role of vocabulary and grammar in real classes.

While observing, take notes about the following:

1. How is vocabulary and grammar treated in the classroom?

2. What vocabulary and grammar did the teacher introduce/review? Give examples.

3. How was vocabulary and grammar presented/reviewed?

4. What happened in the classroom? Tick and add any other element that was presented.

 Allows the student to formulate and discover the rule ‘to induct’
 Helps students discover the rule through meaningful
communication
Now, in groups, select an incident about grammar or vocabulary teaching that occurred in the
classroom. Say how it can be improved? Draw a plan (step by step)- how that particular issue can be
enhanced. In other words, if you had the opportunity to teach this lesson, what would you do
differently? Why? Were the strategies and activities effective?
