focuses on sustainability and industry 4.0 so each team may choose any topic
from the 17 sustainable development goals (SDG).
2. The pitch shall cover the 12 key topics, otherwise known as the “dirty dozen,”
as follows: problem, solution, value proposition, market, and opportunity, how
the product works (demo), go-to-market strategy, technology or unique selling
proposition (USP), competition, team, financial projection (3 years), funding
strategy and needs, and timeline and call to action.
This is based on the team’s ability to identify the problem, articulate the
solution to the problem, and provide a unique differentiator or approach to
solve the problem or need. A demo of this proposition could be most helpful.
This is based on the team’s ability to present the need for the product, who will
it be marketed to, and why that group. It comprises of the market size, the
potential competitors, and a strategy to attract market.
This is based on the team’s plan to make it a successful business, i.e., the team
shall show the channels for marketing and distribution of product/service,
identify partners to efficiently offer and commercialize value, show projected
revenue model, and specify the “Asking Price” or needed funds for the
proposed business.
This is based on the team’s pitch: their level of preparedness and confidence in
their presentation as well as their ability to communicate their idea to the
audience.
Winning entries shall be awarded certificates and cash prizes during the closing ceremonies

TOWER BUILDING
SUBJECT TO SIMULATED EARTHQUAKE
A. Team Composition
B. Materials
Each team shall have the following materials to be used for the tower construction (to
be provided by the SEAD):
C. Structural Model
I. Dimensions
3. The height of the tower model shall not be less than 1000mm measured
perpendicular from the top surface of the base plate to the bottom
surface of the roof plate.
4. Floors must be represented in the model. It is considered as a floor
when the perimeter beams enclose the horizontal plane within the said
level.
5. Floor to floor height is within the range of 125mm to 185mm.
6. Diagonal members, or non-vertical and non-horizontal members can be
installed anywhere within the structure. These members if touching the
base plate should not go outside the 200mmx200mm base zone.
7. All members of the structural model shall be represented by one (1)
stick only. The 2.7mm stick shall be exclusively used for the columns
only (i.e. vertical members) while the rests of the frame members shall
use the 1.5mm thinner stick.
8. For every violation of the rules set forth a 2% deduction of the total
score of the team.
II. Connections
6. A point is given to the team for every earthquake the structural model
has withstood. No point is given to the team when the structure has
collapsed at the simulated earthquake.
7. Should the structure remain standing against the three (3) simulated
earthquakes an additional of 1kg load shall be placed on the roof plate.
8. The structure shall again go through the same earthquake loads with a
point added to every earthquake level it has withstood.
9. Should the structural model remain standing, it shall be subjected to a
harmonic motion with ascending frequencies starting with the 3 kg
roof load. The load shall be increased with a 1kg interval until the
structure has reached its limit.
10. Every point for each stage and load combination the model has
surpassed is then summed up less the total deduction. The highest
scores shall be considered the winners.
11. The winners of the competition shall be ranked according to the
highest number of points (ie. first, second, third).
