EARTHQUAKE

As of February 7, 2024

1
CHAPTER I. BACKGROUND

A. Introduction

The Municipality of Balamban is known to be the ship building capital of the Philippines. It
is bounded by the town of Asturias on the North, Toledo City on the South, Danao City, and
Compostela of the East and Tanon strait on the West. Its geographic coordinates are: 10 degrees
33 minutes North Latitude and 123 degrees and 53 minutes East latitude. Balamban has a total
land area of 226.6144 square kilometers (22,661.44 hectares) 0.47% of which is classified as
alienable and siposable, 0.37% is CCPL, and the remaining 0.16% is forestland. The landform of
terrain of Balamban is characterized by flat lands, scraggly hills, small mountain ranges and
deep narrow passages between mountain and hills. Balamban is classified as a FIRST-CLASS
MUNICIPALITY. Balamban is composed of 28 barangays namely Abucayan, Aliwanay, Arpili,
Baliwagan, Bayong, Biasong, Buanoy, Cabagdalan, Cabasiangan, Cambuhawe, Cansomoroy,
Cantibas, Cantuod, Duangan, Gaas, Ginatilan, Hingatmonan, Lamesa, Liki, Luca, Matun-og,
Nangka, Pondol, Prenza, Singsing, Sunog (Magsaysay), Sta. Cruz – Sto Nino and Vito.

Liki is an upland rural barangay located northeast of Balamban with an area of 433.06
hectares. It is situated 10 kilometers from the town proper. It is bounded on the North by the
Municipality of Asturias and other barangays which are Cabagdalan on the East, Biasong on the
West, and Hingatmonan & Lamesa on the South. Its landform is 75% mountainous, 10% valleys,
10% plateaus and 5% hills.

It is politically subdivided into six (6) sitios namely: Liki Proper, Mayana, Camanaol,
Obogon, Buyog and Malingin.

Liki Integrated School is a public institution in the Division of Cebu situated in a

mountainous barangay of the municipality of Balamban 1. The school is located 123.7889
longitude (DD) and 10.528 latitude (DD). It was formerly known as Liki Elementary School which
was established approximately by the year 1923. It all started to cater only elementary with 6
teachers by then. By year 2013, Liki Elementary School was converted into Liki Integrated
School. Later, by the year 2014 Junior High School was added on its curriculum. By the year
2017 the school started operating Senior High School wherein we had our pioneering learners of
the year 2018.
The distance of the school is approximately 10kms from the Poblacion and is accessible
to all means of transportation since the roads are concrete. Along the way to the school, there
are three spill ways of Barangay Hingatmonan one needed to pass and reach the school.
The nearest public elementary school is Hingatmonan Elementary School which is 2.5kms
away from Liki Integrated School. Private Schools, both elementary and secondary are quite far
from Liki Integrated School which is 12kms away. Distance from the district office is 15kms and
75kms from the Division Office.

In the last three (3) years, the school luckily didn’t experience unlawful act from the
people around. In fact, the residents have been so helpful and supportive in the school
improvement plans and activities of the children.

The classrooms of the school were just enough for the elementary and junior high school
learners whose ratio is 1:30. There are no classrooms for senior high school. Junior High School
classrooms are divided into two classrooms to cater senior high school learners. The school

2
caters 402 learners from Kindergarten to Senior High School Learners. Up to the present, since
the creation of secondary, there is no building allocation coming from the DepEd Central Office.
We are still waiting for that building to accommodate our JHS & SHS students.

CHAPTER II. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

A. Goal

The goal of the contingency plan is to provide

effective, efficient, timely and well-coordinated
response mechanisms in the event of the
occurrence of the earthquake in Liki Integrated
School. Such mechanisms shall help to protect lives,
properties and the environment, and restore the
immediate needs of the people in Liki Integrated
School.

B. General Objective(s)
This 2024 Contingencey Plan covers 402 school learners, 20 teaching and 1 non-
teaching personnels. It focuses on the geological related hazards (earthquake),” It
aims the following:
1. To ensure the protection of lives and properties in the event
of earthquake in Liki Integrated School.
2. To determine the immediate needs and the resources that
will meet the needs in the event of earthquake.
3. To establish coordination and linkages between and among
the stakeholders of Liki Integrated School in the event of
earthquake.
