KATA PENGANTAR

Praise the sense of God Almighty for His mercy and mercy so that the author can
complete the task of this paper. This paper was written to fulfill the assignment of the
Introduction to literature course.

The author received assistance, guidance and motivation from various parties,
especially lecturers, in completing this paper. So, with a sincere heart, the author would like
to express his utmost gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Jhon Sarip Who guided the author in
compiling it. Without his guidance I would not have been able to complete the task assigned
to the author. Thank you to all those who helped complete this task.

The author realizes that in writing this paper there are still many shortcomings and
weaknesses. If there is a mistake in writing, the author apologizes profusely. Therefore,
constructive criticism and suggestions are what the author hopes for the perfection of this

INTRODUCTION

1. BACKGROUND
Figurative language is a way of communicating that goes beyond the literal meaning of
words to give more complex messages or feelings. In literature, figurative language is used to
express deeper ideas or feelings, and to make writing more lively and interesting.

1. FIGURATIVE DEFINITIONS LANGUANGE


Figurative language is the language used by writers or speakers to convey a message
imaginatively and figuratively. Figurative language refers to words or phrases that have
meaning, but are not literally correct.
2. JENIS-JENIS FIGURATIVE LANGUANGE
There are several types of figurative language that are commonly used, including:

1. Simile: A comparison between two things that are not the same using the words "like"
or "as if".
2. Metaphor: A direct comparison between two things without using words of
comparison.
3. Personification: Gives human nature to objects or abstract concepts.
4. Onomatopoeia: The use of words that mimic the sounds they describe.
5. Oksimoron: Combines two words with opposite meanings.
6. Hyperbole: Overexpression to exert emphasis or dramatic effect.
7. Litotes: A form of irony that expresses an idea by denying its opposite.
8. Idiom: A phrase whose meaning cannot be guessed from the words that make it up.
9. Alliteration: The repetition of a consonant sound at the beginning of a word.
10. Allusions: Brief or indirect references to people, places, events, or literary works.
11. Synesthesia: Description of one sensory experience in another term.

Figurative language has several important functions, including:

1. Enhance Imagination: Figurative language can help the reader or listener to


visualize what is being explained.
2. Making Writing Interesting: Figurative language can make writing more lively and
interesting.
3. Expressing Emotions: Figurative language can be used to express deeper emotions
or feelings.

CONCLUSION
Figurative language is an important tool in literature and everyday
communication. By understanding and using figurative language, we can convey
more complex messages or feelings and make our writing or conversation more
interesting and memorable.
SUGGESTION
The author's advice is that we should seek and understand more about figurative language,
and should also increase curiosity.
