A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10

Prepared by: INELYN N. COPIO

I. OBJECTIVES

a. Identify what is DNA

b. Appreciate the importance of function in DNA

c. Create a model about DNA

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic : DNA

Materials : Laptop,TV, PowerPoint, Visual aids/ IM's

References :

Values focus : Collaboration, Cooperation, Respect, and faithfulness

III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER'S ACTIVITY STUDENT'S ACTIVITY

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES

1. GREETINGS

Good afternoon everyone!

Good afternoon ma'am

2. PRAYER

Before we start our lesson for this afternoon

requesting everybody to please stand up for our prayer.
Who wants to lead the prayer?
Me ma'am

Yes angel?
angel lead the prayer
3. ENERGIZER

So please remain standing class because we gonna do

THE LOVE CLAP which is the universal way of saying thank
you. So first clap your knees three time then clap your
hands right side then clap three more times in your knees
then clap you hand in the left side.

It is clear class?
Yes ma'am

Have you enjoyed class?

Yes ma'am

Before take your sits kindly please arrange your chair

properly and pick up some pieces of paper under your
chair.

4. CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE

Who's absent today?

None ma'am

If none then very good, and if someone is absent, May i ask

the classroom monitors to list their names.

5. CLASSROOM RULES

For us to have an organize and harmonious flow in

our class. I have here a rules to be follow.

Raised your right hand if you want to answer or to ask

question

Listen when someone is talking in front

Sit down properly

No cellphone allowed

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTVITIES

1. REVIEW

Now, who can still remember what is the topic last

meeting?
Our topic last meeting is all
about menstrual health and
hygiene ma’am
Very good! Seems that you've understood our topic last
meeting. Let's unlock first some difficult words.

2. UNLOCKING OF DIFFICULTIES

Before we proceed to our lesson , let's have unlock

some difficult words.

1. DNA

stands for deoxyribose nucleic acid.

C. MOTIVATION

Before we proceed to our lesson for this afternoon let's

have first a activity. I'll be showing you a pictures, all you
have to do is to observed and share your idea what HAVE
you observe in the picture.

Cytosine

Thymine

Guanine

Adenine

Have you enjoyed the activity class?

Yes ma'am
You want more activity class?

Yes ma'am
D. ACTIVITY

Since you want more activity so let's have another

activity.I will group you into four groups . All you have to
do is in the first activity we have a picture with words. So
now I have a meaning here each group should have one
representative to put a meaning in the board.

Understood class?
Yes ma'am

E. ANALYSIS

So now before we proceed in our topic for this

afternoon, What have you learned from our activity?

I notice that our activity is

ma’am is all about DNA
What is your idea about DNA? ma’am!

DNA stands for deoxyribose

nucleic acid. This chemical
substance is present in the
nucleus of all cells in all living
organisms.

Wow! Very good!

So now, who have an idea what is our topic for today?

Ma’am I think our topic is all
about DNA.
Exactly!

F. ABSTRACTION

So now our topic is all about DNA. Before we OBJECTIVES :

formally start our discussion kindly, please read our
objectives. a. Identify what is DNA

b. Appreciate the importance

of function in DNA

c. Create a model of DNA

Now, who have an idea what is DNA?

DNA stands for deoxyribose

nucleic acid. This chemical
substance is present in the
nucleus of all cells in all living
organisms.

Precisely!

DNA stands for deoxyribose nucleic acid. This chemical

substance is present in the nucleus of all cells in all living
organisms.

DNA controls all the chemical changes which take place in

cells. The kind of cell which is formed, (muscle, blood,
nerve etc) is controlled by DNA. The kind of organism
which is produced (buttercup, giraffe, herring, human etc)
is controlled by DNA.

DNA molecule

DNA is a very large molecule made up of a long chain of

sub-units.

The sub-units are called nucleotides, Each nucleotide is

made up of a sugar called deoxyribose a phosphate group
-PO4 and an organic base.

Ribose & deoxyribose

Ribose is a sugar, like glucose, but with only five carbon

atoms in its molecule.

Deoxyribose is almost the same but lacks one oxygen

atom.
Both molecules may be represented by the symbol

The bases

The most common organic bases are:

Adenine (A)

Thymine (T)

Cytosine (C)

Guanine (G)

Nucleotides

The deoxyribose, the phosphat, and one of the bases

Combine to form a nucleotide.

Adenine

Deoxyribose

Joined nucleotides
In fact, the DNA usually consists of a double strand of
nucleotides. The sugar-phosphate chains are on the
outside and the strands are held together by chemical
bonds between the bases.

Bonding 1

The bases always pair up in the same way

Adenine forms a bond with Thymine

Adenine Thymine

and Cytosine bonds with Guanine

Cytosine Guanine
The paired strands are coiled into a spiral called

A DOUBLE HELIX

G. APPLICATION

Since were done discussing about menstrual

cycle. I will group you into six (6) groups and all you have
to do is to create a model of DNA.
H. GENERALIZATION

So were already one discussing about DNA. Any None ma'am

clarification or questions class about DNA?
DNA stands for deoxyribose
nucleic acid. This chemical
substance is present in the
What is DNA? nucleus of all cells in all living
organisms ma’am.

The four (4) common organic

base ma’am are Adenine,
What are the four (4) common organic bases? Thynine, Cytosine, and
Guanine ma’am.

Deoxyribose ma'am!
The sub-units are called nucleotides, Each nucleotide is
made up of a sugar called ?

Exactly!

Okay, Since you've already listen and understand our

discussion for this afternoon . We will have an activity.

IV. EVALUATION

Since i finished discussing with you the DNA. At

this moment all you have to do is to identify if you've really
understood our discussion. In a 1/4 sheet of paper then
direct answer. In 5 minutes.

IDENTIFICATION

Direction: Identify what is being asked on the

following question. Read carefully and direct answer.

1. DNA stand for?

2. DNA is found in the?

3. The side DNA “Ladder” are alternating sugar and?

4. The twisted ladder shape of DNA, shown below, is

known as?

5. In DNA, Adenine (A) always pair with?

6. In DN, Guanine (G) always pair with?

7-10 What are the four common organic base?

F. ASSIGNMENT

Study in advance about replication of DNA.
