CONTRIBUTIONS TO KNOWLEDGE
Summary of Major Contribution to knowledge
I have contributed to knowledge in the following areas:
 Developed an instructional programme on “Computer in Education” with PowerPoint presentation
package that could be used both offline and/or hosted on a website for online learning.
 Emphasized on the need for educators to change their conservative mindsets towards the use of
newer technologies in the classroom to meet the current demands of digital learners by highlighting
the benefits, barriers, and the future use of these technologies in contemporary classroom.
 Addressed the urgent need for computer and Internet literacy among lecturers and students in
Nigeria in preparation for futuristic education.
 Highlights an alternative method of teaching/learning in a digital age; thereby
advocates for Distance Education, a new method of teaching that will reach out to the dispersed
learners by stressing for the integration of both Synchronous and Asynchronous tools as alternative
teaching tools in a digitized education system.
 Advocates for Online Presence as a motivation device for enhancement of Distance Education
programmes.
 Reminds teachers of the need for improvisation, and the effective use of instructional media;
warning that verbalization of instruction without the accompanying instructional media poses
17
immeasurable challenges to both the teachers and the learners.
 Exposed the extent of unfavourable Internet accessibility and utilization amongst students and
lecturers in the University of Port Harcourt and the need for the authorities concerned to improve
the status quo.
 Mentored my junior colleagues on research writing & other academic duties.
