4) Choose a variant below and demonstrate a part of a lesson for young learners
aimed at:
 Variant 1: teaching grammar by means of visualisation;
 Variant 2: introducing new vocabulary by means of TPR;
 Variant 3: using songs/rhymes for teaching pronunciation.
5) Solve a problem task:
At the previous lesson a teacher presented several new vocabulary items to the 4th form
pupils on the topic "Shopping". At today's lesson the teacher sets the aim of developing
pupils’ monological competence on the topic using the new words. To achieve the task
the teacher puts several pictures of different departments of a supermarket on the
blackboard and asks the pupils to describe them. The task causes difficulties. So the
teacher gives the children another task formulated as follows: "As it is difficult for you to
describe the pictures, tell the class about the shop you go shopping to". But the situation
does not change. The pupils say 1 or 2 sentences using only the vocabulary that has been
learnt earlier. Why did the teacher fail to develop pupils' monological competence on the
basis of the new vocabulary? What should be done to achieve the aim? Type your
answer.
