The Cursed Throne

It has been 200 years since the King’s disappearance. After King Enma vanished, the yokai clans stormed the
streets parading in the night for souls. Many tried to rule over us, but their reign never lasted more than a
few decades. You see, the throne is cursed and it feasts on the ruler’s power... The weaker they get, the more
our magic fades away. Soon the gates to the spirit realm will be forever closed, and our legend forgotten.
Are you powerful enough to save us?

A difficult Choice
When your Champion Meeple reaches the Cursed Throne you have
to decide to either Rescue the King or Betray them and then reveal
a new Throne Card in the Challenge Board.

Rescue the King: take the top Throne Card, and place it on your
player area face up, this card will be worth 1VP and every time you
use the Reign Action ( ) you may choose to use either the ability
on the Throne in the Challenge Board or the one you rescued.

Betray the King: take the top Throne Card, and place it on your
player area face down, with the empty Throne showing. This card
will be worth 2VP at the end of the game.

After reaching the Throne, you get your Champion Meeple back In this example, the Gamanoke player reached the Throne and decided to Rescue
into your playing area. From now on, every time you activate the King, keeping the Throne Card face up next to their Scroll in their player area. In
your Champion Card place the Champion Meeple on any island of future turns, if they use the ability Reign, they will be able to choose the effect from
your choice. The Champion Meeple counts as just one Meeple for either the card they rescued or the one on the Challenge Board, and will also be able

any other regular Meeple.

5
New Ability: Reign
The effect of Reign ( ) will depend on the Yokai who sits on the Cursed Throne!

During the course of a game, if your Champion chooses to Rescue the King (pg. 5) then you also have
access to the ability of the Yokai in your play area, but not to Throne Cards rescued by other players.
As with any ability in Night Parade, you may choose not to use the Reign action when activating a
Yokai Card or moving your Champion on the Challenge Board. If you choose to do so, any additional
benefit that card would give to anoother players will also not be activated . For expample, if the
Throne Card available are 3 , 5 , 7 or 9 and you decide not to activagte Reign, the other
players will also not get their benefit.

In your first few plays, shuffle only the Throne Cards marked from ( 1 to 6 ).
Once your group feels they already understand the rules enough, shuffle the remaining
Throne Cards during setup.

Change & Hide
The abilities below are present in the Moonlight Whispers Expansion. Use the new version of Change ( ) even if playing without the Cursed Throne expansion.

Change: Using Change ( ) is now a mandatory action. If a Yokai has this icon, then you MUST move it to your shortest Parade immediately after you use it. If
the active Parade is already your shortest one, you cannot move this Card. If you have more than one Parade with the same number of Yokai, then you choose.
The active carding leaving your Parade still counts to determine this Parade length. You cannot move a Yokai to the SAME Parade they already are.

Spirit, they cannot acquire more Yokai Cards this turn, so their
Talisman token becomes 1 Spirit and they pass their turn.

Hide: You may choose to either lay one of your Meeples on the World Map face down or move a face down Meeple of yours to an adjacent Island Tile.
Face down Meeples can still be moved and continue to count toward considering an Island Tile sacred as normal. Face down Meeples must be fought
twice in order to be removed from the World Map. The first Fight icon that is resolved against a face down Meeple forces them to reveal themselves
and stand up again, while the resolution of a second Fight icon will remove the Meeple from the World Map as normal.
