About this training course

Participants will acquire an understanding of the geological challenges that accompany drilling
and how to combat them to succeed. The course will look at what information is gathered during COURSE HIGHLIGHTS
drilling from wellsite geology, mud logging and petrophysical (“wireline”) logs, and how it is used.
 The Instructor is a currently
The measurement and prediction of formation pressure are covered in detail, and there are also

modules on coring and well testing. The course concludes with an in-depth look at the deep with 40 years of international
water drilling environment, including recent case histories. Attendees are expected to have an industry experience, including
understanding of how petroleum is formed, how it migrates and how it is trapped, and of the training and mentoring.

About your Expert trainer: Dr. Pete Webb

Peter joined Texaco as a Wellsite Geologist in 1974, at the start of the North Sea oil
boom, alternating between the wellsite and the office. He transferred in 1977 to
Iran, initially as a Wellsite Geologist in the Zagros Mountains and then in the office,
working on the appraisal of super-giant discoveries. This was followed by 4 years
in Luanda, in operations, exploration and appraisal.

A move to Sun International in 1984 saw him in Colombia for two years as Exploration Manager,
followed by operations and new ventures studies in countries as diverse as Sudan, Argentina and
the UAE. In 1992, he formed his own consultancy but moved to PNG to work for a World Bank
project from 1995 to 1998, and to Cairn Energy India from 2000 to 2004. He continues to consult,
mainly in new venture evaluation but has also undertaken a number of training assignments,
including all of 2009 on the super-giant Kashagan field in Kazakhstan. As independent consultant,
Pete has taken-up assignments with Roberson Research (UK), Knowledge Reservoir, MND A.S. and
OPC.

At home in the UK, he gives public lectures, especially on fraccing for oil and gas. Pete is a
member of the AAPG, where he was an Associate Editor on the Bulletin from 1994 to 2004. He is
also a Chartered Geologist and Fellow of the Geological Society (London), and a member of the
Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain. Pete Webb is a graduate of London University,
England, holding a BSc in Geology and a PhD.
