1.0 PURPOSE:

To determine the colour resistance of PVC pool materials when exposed to concentrate
bleach solution at room temperature.

2.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

R & D lab technicians, students

3.0 SAFETY:

Wear appropriate PPE safety glasses, disposable gloves, and lab coat; Expected face
velocity of air flow in the fume hood when the door is opened or closed should be 150 FPM.

4.0 EQUIPMENT and MATERIALS:

Fume hood, 500 ml beaker, masking tape, tap water, Trichloroisocyanuric acid

5.0 PROCEDURE:

5.1 Review raw material SDS.

5.2 Cut two 2” x 2” pieces, side by side out of area to be tested.

5.3 Retain one piece for colour comparison.

5.4 Fasten the back of the second piece to the bottom of a 500 ml beaker using a small loop
of masking tape.

5.5 Pour 200 ml of tap water into the beaker.

5.6 Weigh 1.0 g Trichloroisocyanuric Acid into a small Dixie cup.

5.7 Sprinkle 1.0 g Trichloroisocyanuric Acid slowly into the beaker taking care to
cover sample evenly.

5.8 Leave beaker + sample inside the fume hood undisturbed for 24 hours.

5.9 Remove sample, rinse with plenty of water and mount beside retained piece on a

pre-made card and observe the difference visually.

5.10 Leave the exposed sample inside the fume hood to deaerate for at least 24 h or even
longer if necessary.
