Malaga – Travelling to Spain

About Malaga

Malaga is one of the oldest cities in the world, founded in the 8th century by the Phoenicians. Today,
art is everywhere-- you can experience exhibits dedicated to glass and crystal, classic cars,
contemporary installations, and, of course, the works of Picasso, who was born here. Wander past
banana trees and beautiful fountains as you walk through Paseo del Parque, then hit the old city to
quench your thirst at a Spanish tavern.

Málaga is located on the Costa del Sol, a stretch of coast on the Spanish Mediterranean. The name
says it all – this region is spoiled with sunny days along the Costa del Sol and in Málaga. Thanks to the
mountain ranges nearby, the coast is nicely protected from the wind making it feel warmer and
sunnier.

Informations- Malaga

Málaga is a municipality of Spain, capital of the Province of Málaga, in the autonomous community
of Andalusia. With a population of 578,460 in 2020, it is the second-most populous city in Andalusia
after Seville and the sixth most populous in Spain. It lies on the Costa del Sol (Coast of the Sun) of the
Mediterranean, about 100 kilometres (62.14 miles) east of the Strait of Gibraltar and about 130 km
(80.78 mi) north of Africa.

Málaga's history spans about 2,800 years,

making it one of the oldest cities in
Europe and one of the oldest continuously
inhabited cities in the world.
Collection of the Russian Museum in Malaga

This is the first home of the Russian State Museum in western Europe, and its collection comprises a
selection of Russian artworks which is renewed every year.

The museum offers a window onto the culture of Russia through important pieces from the Russian
State Museum in Saint Petersburg. This institution has over 400,000 works that encompass every
single period, trend and genre in Russian art. The site in Malaga also hosts temporary exhibitions,
and features an auditorium, several screening and reading rooms, and organises activities such as
film series and children's workshops.

It is housed in one of the most representative regionalist-style buildings in the city, the Tabacalera
building.

Soho Málaga - the Art District

A central neighbourhood which is an icon of urban art and underground culture in the city of Málaga
thanks to a project started by the public.

Its most recognisable feature is probably the large-scale graffiti art covering some of its buildings.
These murals include work by internationally recognised graffiti artists like Obey and D*face. The
district is easy to explore on foot and is very close to Málaga’s main tourist area. Its streets feature
independent local businesses with a strong sense of identity, and several art and cultural centres,
including private galleries, artists’ studios, La Alameda theatre, and the Contemporary Art Centre;
many restaurants offering local, organic or gourmet food; and modern, functional, well-designed
public spaces. The “Made in Soho” market is held on the first Saturday of every month, with stalls
selling design, crafts, works of art and audiovisual art, antiques, and vintage items.

How much time should I plan for a trip to Málaga?

Although different personal preferences will result in very individual answers, we will still share with
you our thoughts on a recommended period of time. Since the centre of Málaga is relatively easy to
get around, you can expect to see and do quite a lot in just one day. If you are planning a round trip
through Andalusia and don’t have much time, then we would recommend that you spend about 2
nights in Málaga, which will give you enough time to visit all the most important sights.

If you prefer a more relaxed experience, then it’s better to stay 3 nights. If Málaga is your only travel
destination in Andalusia and you are only planning to do one or two small trips, then you could easily
spend 4 nights or more.
