Kinetics of particles

Particle mass 𝑚 = constant 𝐹⃗ 𝐹⃗

∑ 𝐹⃗ = 𝐹⃗ + 𝐹⃗ + 𝐹⃗ +∙∙∙∙ 𝑚
𝐹⃗
= all external forces including weight 𝐹⃗

Newton's second law:

∑ 𝐹⃗ = 𝑚𝑉⃗ = 𝑚 = 𝑚𝑎⃗

If we use rectangular coordinates:

∑ 𝐹 = 𝑚𝑎

∑ 𝐹 = 𝑚𝑎

∑ 𝐹 = 𝑚𝑎

In cylindrical coordinates:

∑ 𝐹 = 𝑚𝑎

∑ 𝐹 = 𝑚𝑎

∑ 𝐹 = 𝑚𝑎

- We can also write similar equations in spherical coordinates.

- Choice of coordinate system depends on the problem are hand the convenience.

- The relation in valid at an instant of time only.

- For studies over a period of time we need to integrate the above equation.

- The integration is either with respect to time or displacement.

- We shall see this in later studies.
