Chapter 3 Storage
Chapter 3 Storage
you've burned data onto it, you can't change or erase that data. On the other hand, a DVD-RW
(Digital Versatile Disc-Rewritable) disk can be rewritten multiple times. This means you can write
data onto it, erase it, and then write new data again, multiple times. So, the key difference is that
DVD-R is write-once, while DVD-RW is rewritable.

4)Storage devices are necessary because they provide a way to store and retrieve data on
computers and electronic devices. Without storage, data would be lost when the device is
powered off, making it impossible to save documents, install software, or store media files like
photos and videos. Storage devices enable users to keep their information safe.
5) The storage medium holds the data and the storage device is the machine that lets you
store the data onto the medium, and then reads data from it.
eg: CD RW (Compact Disk Read/Write)
1) A laptop needs a storage device to save and access files, install software, and run the
operating system. It's like the laptop's memory, storing everything you do on it. Without it,
the laptop wouldn't be able to function properly.
.
2) Blu-ray optical storage media allows very high capacity storage by using a
blue/violet laser light
4) Data is stored on an optical disk like a CD-ROM by creating tiny pits in a spiral
track on the disk's surface using a laser. These pits represent the digital
information, and a laser beam reads this data as the disk spins inside an optical
drive.
5) A hard disk drive is currently the main storage device on most personal
computers; however, they are rapidly being replaced by solid-state drives.
They are slower to read and write data than solid-state drives.
They can be noisy.
It breaks over time and it has a slower access to solid state drives
6) Direct Access You can instantly jump to any piece of data you want on the
storage device.
Serial Access You have to go through the data one by one, in order, until you find
what you're looking for.
9) a) A data logger needs secondary storage to store recorded data for future
retrieval and analysis, ensuring data isn't lost when the device is turned off or
loses power.
b) Solid-state storage is most suitable for data loggers because it's durable,
shock-resistant, and has no moving parts, making it ideal for portable devices like
data loggers that may experience rough handling or environmental conditions.
