How to add page sizes and print resolutions

Open the ServerAdmin module 1

T he Caldera printer drivers are installed with a certain number of default

parameters already defined, amongst which are the available roll (or page) sizes,
and the available printing resolutions. You cannot directly modify these values in
the standard Print module, but you can do so in the Server Administration
window. This HowTo document will explain you the procedure in detail.

NOTE: Adding resolutions to a printer is only possible in the case of certain grand format
drivers, such as the Rho models, and only if the new resolution is supported. On other
types of printers, the resolution cannot be changed.

Open the ServerAdmin module

These operations are all done in the Servers Admin module. The process is the same for
every printer, although this tutorial focuses on the Canon W6200 and Rho-600 models.

1. In the Applications bar, open the Settings tab, then double-click the ServerAdmin
icon.

2. In the list of servers, select the printer to which you want to add a size/resolution.

3. Click the Configure... button.

Adding a roll size or a page size to a printer

Here is the procedure you will have to follow to add a roll size or a page size to the

2. Select one of the available roll sizes (or one of the available sheet sizes, if needed).

3. Click the Dup... button to duplicate the selected roll.

A new window will appear, in which you will have to input the information
needed to create the new roll size.

4. Set up the name of the new format, then its width (enter its height as well, if it is a sheet).
Important: Do not modify either the margins or the offset. These values represent
the physical margins of the printer, and are not customizable (this is the reason
why it is better to start from an existing roll than to create a new one from
scratch).

5. Click OK to close this window, then Proceed to update the printer configuration.

Next time you restart the Print module, the new roll size will be available in the Loading
menu.

Adding a printing resolution to a printer

1. In Servers Admin, select a wide format printer (here, we have chosen the Rho-
1000 model) and click Configure..., as already explained.

2. In the configuration window, select the Pages tab.

3. In the Available resolutions part of the tab, click the New... button.
A new window appears, in which you have to enter the information needed to
create the new resolution.

4. In the first field, Resolution, type either the horizontal or the vertical resolution.
These values are not used for computation, therefore whichever you choose does
not matter.

5. In the Label field, type the resolution name, as it will be displayed in the Print
module. The string can not contain any space, and is limited to 20 characters.

6. In the Horizontal Resolution and Vertical Resolution fields, type the exact
resolution values. These are the important ones.

7. Click OK to close this window, then Proceed to update the printer configuration.
The new resolution is now added to the list.

8. Finally, you can open the Print interface to make sure that the new resolution is
available.
