A: For me the most notable painting I’ve ever seen in my life, is the famous
painting of Juan Luna, it is the spoliarium. That painting is indeed exhilarating and
breathtaking.

A: The popularity of that masterpiece is really timeless and even now in the
present it is still remembered and captures the interest of art spectators.
TD: Juan Luna is the most famous Ilocano painter and sculptor. Yes, I can clearly
remember those elementary days our teacher always mentioned Juan Luna as a
Philippine hero and a famous painter.
A: And I can also remember the full name of Juan Luna , it was Juan Luna de San
Pedro y Novecio Ancheta.

TD: Since we are now talking about anecdotes, stories and histories, the next
question is, what is the famous literature that is originated in the Ilocos region?

Biag ni Lam ang.
TD: That is written by Pedro bukaneg, isn’t it?
A: Yes, pedro bukaneg is the “Father of Ilocano Literature”
TD: If I would plan to visit the Ilocos region in the near future, what month or date
would you recommend for me to come? And What is the best city to visit on that
date?

A: If you want to visit the Ilocos Region, I highly suggest that you should consider
Laoag city as your first destination
TD: Why Laoag city? well it could be Vigan city or the saint augustine church? So
what is the reason behind?
A: Well, you know when you visit Laoag city in the first week of February, it is a long-
week celebration of the Pamulinawen festival.

Laoag City, it is one of the famous sculptures in the Ilocos region that is erected by the
people of Ilocos a long time ago.

A: and when you are already in Laoag you should not forget to try the very own Ilocano dish
of Bagnet. You can go to cuisine de Iloco located at Ilocos Norte, Hernando, Lungsod ng
Laoag.

.
TD: With all the things you said about Laoag City and the cultures in Ilocos region that you
said earlier. I want to book my plane ticket right now.
A: And also you should take time to visit and buy some native crafts of Ilocos in the souvenir
shops.
T: I think that act should every tourist do, because in that way we can support and promote
the local product in the Philippines not just in Ilocos but in every place or destination that we
visit in our localities.
A: Yes I agree, and in Ilocos you can visit these Souvenirs shop Along Calle Crisologo that
screams Filipino Craftsmanship.

A: When you visit Vigan, do plan a morning stroll along Calle Crisologo and get your
hands on the coolest Ilocano crafts you can ever find in the region.
TD: I will surely take your advice.
T: Now I can conclude that region 1 is really rich in culture, from the different form of
arts, the architecture, tourist spots, the festivals
A: Music and dances, literature, the craftmanship and of course the native foods in
Ilocos.
TD: we must always remember to embrace your country's art, culture and values.
A: Listen to local music and watch local movies. Make it a priority to visit your own
country's destinations before traveling to other countries.
T: Youth can also teach and encourage children to love and respect their countries, in
order to grow their national pride.
