IV- Objectives:
1. Increase the number of independent learners.
2. Reduce the number of struggling learners.
3. Eliminate non-reader learners.
4. Sustain a good partnership with the stakeholders.
After tracking and listing names of struggling learners and non-readers by grade
level including the incoming grade 7 students with the data taken from Parang
Elementary School, Cabas-an Elementary School and Buntalid Elementary School, the
Briagada Pagbasa thru Project ML was conducted during the Brigada Eskwela 2022 kick
off last August 9, 2022 held at Parang National High School ground.
All through the collaborative efforts of the faculty and staff headed by Dr. Evangeline
A. Caratao, Principal II and the School Governing Council and PTA officials led by Hon.
Pablo B. Arpilleda Jr., the school was able to invite more stakeholders who help provide
the needs of every student making their learning environment motivating and
conducive to learning.
While the opening program of Brigada Eskwela was conducted, simultaneously the
Brigada Pagbasa was also initiated. Identified at risk learners were present and were
facilitated by the BJMP, BFP and PNP of Cantilan.
Day by day, another stakeholders invited who are the young professionals, alumni
members of the school, registered fraternity group and the constant facilitators, the
school’s vs
olunteer teachers.
Indeed, the activity was a remarkable and beneficial to learners knowing form their
side that they just not only learn but they also met new people aside from their teachers
who will help them uplift their reading and comprehension skills. As they said,
“Kaganing baja ma’am ky lakip an pulis ug mga bombero makasinudlo sa amo pagbasa.”

IV- Objectives:
1. Identify the number of students who belong to Independent level, Instructional
level, Frustration level and Non-reader level.
2. Identify the baseline in crafting the intervention/remediation plan .

VI- Highlights of the Activity:
Literacy is one of the most fundamental skills a child can learn. Reading is the
foundation of all academic learning. Learning to read, write and count is crucial to a child’s
success in school and in later life. Literacy improvement is one of the priorities of the
Department of Education (DepEd). It is anchored in the flagship of the Department: “Every
Child A Reader Program,” which aims to make every Filipino child a reader and a writer at
his/her grade level.
As stipulated in the DepEd order No. 14 series of 2018, Parang National High school
continued to administer the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) to the learners
from grade 7 to grade 12 to measure and describe their reading performance both in English
and Filipino languages. The school has also included the use of Functional Literacy Assessment
Tool (FLAT) to grade 7-12 learners only to specifically identify to what level/ types of reading
ability the learners can read (i.e letters level, word level, et.al.).
The said activity was conducted last September 13, 2022 and administered by the language
teachers with following Results:

The data gathered above will serves as the basis in planning, designing/redesigning the reading
instructions of the teachers and the school’s reading programs or activities to improve the overall
school’s reading performance.
