Our company uses the narrow/tall span of management as it is so suitable for our

company in managing the employees. A narrow span of management defines as where

less employees are under one manager’s supervision and control. The advantages of

using this type of span management are employee’s productivity and morale will

increase as they are close with manager, and they can receive feedback from manager

easily. Other than that, there will be rapid communication between employees and

managers so the information given will clearly be understood by the employees.

Besides that, managers will have high control and ease of supervision of the

employees’ work. The manager will easily trace errors in employees’ work so the work

will be done perfectly. Other than that, narrow management creates clear lines of

responsibility and authority that will avoid confusion among employees to seek for their

managers. Besides the advantages of a narrow span of management there are also

disadvantages such as the company needing to spend more money as many levels of

management and many managers are employed. Other than that, communication will

suffer drastically as it takes a lot of time to reach employees and the action taken will be

delayed. Next, there is excessive distance between the lowest and top levels as there

are many layers of management. Besides that, slow speed of decision making will occur

because of many layers of management.
