Summary:-

Abortion is considered a difficult and a global issue that stops a child from being
born and this is largely used by women globally due to financial or health issues
but at the same time it is also a painful process as stated by the World Health
Organization, “Abortion (who.int)”.
This news article “https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/28/health/abortion-clinics-shut-
guttmacher/index.html” focuses on the closing of clinics around the United
States, especially in the south and midwest regions. Sources state that the
reason for the abandonment of these clinics were because of the Dobbs and
Jackson women’s health trial which ended on June 24th, 2022. This trial is
important due to the fact that it ended on allowing bans or limits on abortion. The
effect of abortion on clinics is that before this ban was issued there were 71
clinics operating but prior to the ban there are only 27 clinics left. The news
article further describes how different people which include those who are part of
the LGBT community are at higher risks due to unwanted pregnancy and that this
ban will make it even harder as appointments for abortion will be shorter in terms
of availability. This issue needs to be looked upon by the government or else
there would be more than 200 clinics that will close down by the end of 2022.

Issue:-
The political issue is that clinics are closing down due to abortion. This is
classified as a political issue as it directly affects the people living in the southern
and midwestern regions of the United States. Not only is this making it harder for
people to issue an abortion appointment but this is also fueling a much
devastating issue to rise. The more devastating issue is the availability of
medicine in the market. The closing down of clinics would mean that the supplies
inside the clinic would be wasted or transported to a different area. This would
mean that it would be hard for people to obtain medicine as they would have to
travel to a different area which would cause more carbon dioxide to be released
into the atmosphere which would affect climate change. Not only that, but this
would also cause traffic near the proximity of the clinic which would cause even
more problems for transport trucks and workers considering this is a big issue. If
medicine is wasted then it would make it easier for diseases to spread and for
people to die as they wouldn't be able to control their conditions unless the
government would alter these bans or control the abandonment of clinics.

Key concept:-
The key concept “Human rights” is relevant to this issue as human rights is what
got this issue to emerge as the trial was about women wanting abortion and their
voice made it easier for the high power to issue bans over abortion.
“Sovereignty, power and international relations” is also supposedly relevant to
this issue as the supreme court has the power to issue several unbans on the
abortion matter but they are choosing to rather not get involved in this matter.
International relations is also relevant because this is a global issue and it would
make international relations better if a country decides to help with the medical
supplies.

Level of analysis:-
Abortion is considered a global issue but the closing of clinics in terms of this
news source is only national as its focused on the United States of America,
however, this issue could become a global issue soon as 200 clinics would close
in America which would make it more harder to supply medical supplies and so
the government would ask for aid from international countries but since the
supply of medicine is very low due to them being less produced. Abortion would
then become popular in the african region and then spread onto the asian region
of the world which would also have a higher chance for the clinics to close.
