STEPS BEFORE CONFESSION • Examine your conscience • Before going to Confession you should make a review of mortal and venial sins since your last sacramental confession, and should express sorrow for sins, repulsion for sins and a firm resolution not to sin again. • A helpful pattern for examination of conscience is to review the Commandments of God and the Precepts of the Church • Make a resolve not to sin again (to the best of your ability and sincerity) STEPS DURING CONFESSION • Wish the Priest (eg. Good Morning Father) ...Make the Sign of Cross • Say: "Bless me Father for I have sinned. I want to tell God that I am sorry for the things that I have done and ask God to forgive me. It had been (state the period passed since your last confession) weeks/ months/years since my last confession. • My sins are ... (State your sins). • I will try not to do these things that are wrong anymore. For these sins and those I cannot remember, I ask pardon of God and absolution from you Father:' • Listen to the advice & penance that priest gives you to do after Confession. • Say the Act of Contrition aloud: O my God, I am very sorry for all my sins because they displease you who are all so good to me. Lord with your help I will sin no more. Amen. • The priest gives Absolution and Final Blessing • Say Amen" and then "Thank You Father" - Return to your seat STEPS AFTER CONFESSION • After returning to your seat ...say / Do your Penance that the priest has assigned to you.. • Give thanks to God for forgiving you again.
