    Groups of word combinations:
    1. free word combinations
    2. usual word combinations:
    poor visibility – limited visibility;
    3. phraseological series: achieve a victory =
    win; achieve/capture/score a victory;
    4. phraseological unities: once in a blue moon
    (= very rarely); under the rose (= in secret;
    privately)

    Meaning of idiom:
     a particular manner of expressing
    something in language, music,
    art, etc. → idiomaticity & idiom
    principle (superordinate term);
     a particular lexical collocation or
    phrasal lexeme, peculiar to a
    language (hyponymic term).
    Narrower uses → fixed, semantically
    opaque or metaphorical unit:
    kick the bucket; spill the beans.
    Broader uses → a general term for
    many kinds of multi-word item.
    Dictionaries in the Anglo-American
    tradition → ‘idioms’, with no further
    typological classification.
    Generic terms: phraseological units,
    phrasemes, phrasal lexemes, fixed
    expressions & idioms.
    Phraseological unit (PU):
     international cooperation
     the dominant role of English
     equivalents in many languages
    (unité phraséologique,
    phraseologische Einheit,
    frazeološka enota)
