Design Basis
Qaverage 1200.0 m3/d
0.014 m3/s
50.0 m3/h
Peak factor considered 3.0
Q peak 150.0 m3/h
The Peak Hydraulic flow has been considered while designing all the parts of the inlet works and balancing tank. While average
flow were considered for the rest of the plant structures. Such as for the aeration tank and final sedimentation tank
For average flow 50 m3/hr - one pump shall be in duty and 2 in standby - The total number of start stop allowed will be 60
Total numbers of starts/ stop allowed (N) = 60 Times/ hour
Minimum water volume is sump Qav/N = 0.83 m3
For peak flow 150 m3/hr - two pumps shall be in duty and 1 in standby - The total number of start stop allowed will be 60
Total numbers of starts/ stop allowed (N) = 60 Times/ hour
Water volume is sump Qpeak/N = 2.5 m3
For operation safety and for installation reasons (three parallel pumps installation) - the volume of the sump shall be 50 m3
Selected sump volume (V) = 50 m3
Sump length = 4 m
Sump width = 4 m
Effective water depth (ds = V / Area) = 3.125 m
Minimum water level for safe pump operation (L (to be confirmed in
= 0.5 m Engineering phase)
op)
Overall depth of pump sump ((-Lp) + ds + Lop) = 4.625 m

TITLE Hydraulic & Pump Calculation DATE 17/09/2023
As the funcition of the balancing tank is to absorb the difference between peak flow and average flow, balancing tank pumps
should be sized based on average flow rate of the plant - this mean total flow rate of balancing tank pumps should be 50 m3/hr.
