Oceanographic Cruise Report September - December 2023
Rutgers University
• Programmed and deployed a CTD/rosette, analyzed nutrient concentrations by spectrophotometry, estimated
dissolved oxygen concentrations through Winkler Titration, and extracted DNA via PCR
• Created graphical representations of spatial and temporal differences of the biology within Raritan Bay
• Generated a scientific report discussing the management and restoration potential of each site in Buell Brook
analyses, stochastic matrix models, sensitivity and elasticity analyses, and harvest models
• Analyzed models to determine the best management techniques for black vultures of New Jersey
R ELEVANT E XPERIENCE
NSF REU Intern June 2023 – August 2023
Brooklyn College Brooklyn, NY
• Used a dilution technique to estimate the impact of microzooplankton grazing on phytoplankton of three size
fractions at two sites of differing dissolved oxygen levels within Jamaica Bay
• Conducted statistical analyses utilizing t-tests and regression models to determine the significance of
differences in grazing pressure between sites; identified a 33% greater grazing pressure for phytoplankton
< 5 µm in diameter at the site with a higher concentration of dissolved oxygen
