INTRODUCTION

A. Rationalizing the Importance of CJR

Critical journal review is an activity to review a journal in order to know and understand
what is presented in a journal. Crtical Journal Review aims to find out what are the
advantages and disadvantages of the journal. There are several important things before
we review a journal, such as finding a journal that fits the topic raised, reading the entire
contents of the journal and trying to rewrite in their own language the meaning of the
journal. Criticizing a journal cannot be done if the reader has not read the entire journal.
An important step in reviewing a journal is to present the discussion section, present the
introduction section, and present the conclusion section. Apart from that, criticizing
journals can also train our ability to analyze a reading material. When we need a
reference, the journal is a reading source other than books that we can read, we should
first criticize the journal so that we know which journals are more relevant and good for
reading sources.

B. Purposes of Study
a. Ful fill assignments in the Seminar on ELT course
b. Improve students' abilities in summarizing, analyzing a journal.
c. Strengthen the reader's understanding of the importance of reading journal.

C. Benefits of Study
a. As a reference for perfecting a journal and looking for relevant and good reading
sources.
b. Make writers and students more honed in criticizing a journal.
c. To find out more deeply and quickly understand the knowledge about the benefits of
reading

CHAPTER II
DISSCUSSION
A. Summary
The development of appropriate teaching materials not only needs to be adjusted to the
latest curriculum but also to the needs of the parties involved in learning. One of the
parties involved is the learner. The needs of learners in the learning process must be
known to develop appropriate teaching materials. This study is intended to map the needs
of learners in the Seminar on ELT class as a first step to develop appropriate teaching
materials by considering the different characteristics of students through the perspective
of their epistemological beliefs. The participants involved in this study were 102 students
who had attended the Seminar on ELT class. The result showed that majority of Seminar
on ELT students (95%) are having sophisticated epistemic beliefs which we can describe
them as the students that believe the knowledge is always changing or tentative, learning
can be done individually by everyone, their knowledge of English did not come from
authority, but through reason or logic experiences. They also believe that everyone can
learn English from the beginning, no matter what age, or even their background. They
agree on process-oriented learning. They also tend to have high motivation to learn
English regardless of whether the motivation is extrinsic or intrinsic motivation. With this
finding, we can finally understand the characteristics of the Seminar on ELT students as
an initial step to develop an appropriate course material.
B. Strenght and Weakness of Journal
The strenght of this journal, in my opinion, are that the writing and layout of the journal
are made quite well and neatly arranged so that it is easy to read by the reader and there is
a table containing the research instruments that can be seen by the reader. The contents of
the journal are sufficient to explain in detail and clearly. This journal is intended to map
the needs of students in the ELT Seminar class as a first step to developing appropriate
teaching materials by considering the different characteristics of students through the
perspective of their epistemological beliefs. The drawback of this journal is the use of
very large tables so that it makes a full page with tables where the table is difficult for
readers to understand.
CHAPTER III
CLOSING
A. Conclusion
We can conclude that this journal is intended to map the needs of students in the ELT
Seminar class as a first step to developing appropriate teaching materials by considering
the different characteristics of students through the perspective of their epistemological
beliefs. So majority of Seminar on ELT students are having sophisticated epistemic
beliefs which we can describe them as the students that believe the knowledge is always
changing or tentative, learning can be done individually by everyone, their knowledge of
English did not come from authority, but through reason or logic experiences. They also
believe that everyone can learn English from the beginning, no matter what age, or even
their background. They agree on process-oriented learning. They also tend to have high
motivation to learn English regardless of whether the motivation is extrinsic or intrinsic
motivation. But in the other hand they tend to disagree that mastering English is
something that can be learned with hard work but something that is inherited. With this
finding, we can finally understand the characteristics of the Seminar on ELT students as
an initial step to develop an appropriate course material.

B. Suggestion
We realize that the material in this document is good enough so that this research can be
used as a reference for students. This research can be used as a reference for conducting
research and producing more perfect research. Therefore, it is hoped that this journal can
be used as well as possible to motivate readers.
