ECO
ECO
- Economic is the study of the choices that ppl and society make to attain their limited
want, given their scarce resources.
- Study how they make choices and interact in the market.
+ Market: a group of buyers and sellers of goods or services and the institution or
arrangement by which they come together to trade.
+1. A person is rational (EG. A ppl is rational if he systematically and purposefully does
the best he can to achieve)
+2. People respond to economic incentives. (INCENTIVES: smt that induces a person to
act. Ie: the prospect of a reward or punishment).
+3. Optimal decision are made at the margin. (a firm considers whether to increase
output, comparing the cost of the needed labour)
+marginal mean: additional (the extra acmount of cost and benefit if u continue to do a
certain activity)
- Econmic models
+ Economic models: simplified versions of reality used to analyse eco situation
+ Eco variable: smt measurable that related to resource (Wages, price, petrol)
Week 2
The demand side of the market
- Quantity demanded: the amount of G/S that a consumer willing and able to buy at a
given price
- Demand schedule: a table showing the linking between the price and prodict and the
quantity of the product demand
- Demand curve: a curve that show the relationship the price of a product and the
quantity of the product demanded
- Market demand: the demand by all the consumers
- Law of demand: holding thing constant(ceteris paribus: meaning all other things being
equal/all else being equal), when price fall then the quantity demanded will increase,
and vice versa (và ngược lại)
+1. Substitution effect: the change in quantity demanded that results from a change in
price that make the G/S more or less expensive to others are substitute, holding constant
the effect of the price change on consumer purchasesing power
+2. Income effect: the change in the quantity demanded of G/S that results from the effect
of a change in price on consumer purchasing power, holding all other factors constant.
+3. Taste:
+2. Technological change: Productivity: The output produced per unit of input.
-Elasticity (độ co giãn); measure of how much one economic variable – demand of a
product responds to changes in another eco variable such as product price
-Elastic demand: demand in elastic when the percentage change in quantity demand is
greater than the percentage change in price
Elastic demand always greater than 1 ( giá trị tuyệt đối của E luôn lớn hơn 1)
- Perfectly elastic demand: when a change in price results in infinite change in quantity
demanded
- When demand is price inelastic: a dcr in price lead dcre in total rev
- When demand is price elastic: a dcr in price lead to an icrs in total rev
+always be positive, as price and quantity supplied move in the same direction
- Technological change: a change in the ability of a firm to produce output with a given
quantity of inputs
Week 5
Market structure:
+ Perfect competition (cạnh tranh hoàn hảo) ví dụ: apple, wheat, rice
+Number of firm
Demand curve for a price taker is horizontal, or perfectly elastic
Price=AR=MR
The profit-maximizing level of ouput is also where marginal rev = marginal cost
Denta P/ denta Q= 0
+Sunk cost: a cost that has already paid and cannot be recovered
+Government block the entry of more than one firm into a market
Patent (bằng sáng chế) : right to produce and sell a product for a period of time
Copyright (bản quyền): sách giáo khoa,...
Public Franchise (nhượng quyền đại chúng): Mc Donald, Subway,...
+ one firm há control of a key raw material neccasry to produce a good (EG; Africa
Diamond)
+Natural monoploly: situation in which economies of scale are so large that one firm can
supply the entire market at lower average cost than 2 or other firm
- Monopoly iss a price maker, does not face a horizontal demand curve
- Downward sloping
W6:
-Oligopoly (độc quyền nhóm): (ví dụ:mobifone Vn, đôc quyền nhóm của các nhà mạng)
Using game theory: the study of how ppl make dcs in situation where attaining their goald
depend on their interaction with other
3 key characteristics:
1. Rule
2. Strategies
3. Payoff
- Duopoly (độc quyền 2 nhà)
+Dominant Strategy that is the best for a firm no matter what strategies other use
+nash quilibrium: each firm choose the best strategy, given the strategite chosen by other
firm
1. Production method
2. Expenditure method
3. The income method
1. Consumption (C)
2. Investmetn (I)
3. Government purchases (G)
4. Net exports (NX)
Cash rate in Australia/ discount rate/federal fund rates (lãi suất chiết khấu): là lãi suất mà
