Andy Garcia was born on April 12, 1956, in Havana, Cuba. His real name was Andres Arturo Garcia Menendez.
His father was a lawyer. He went to the United States when he was five years old, but he has never forgotten his
Latin roots.

He grew up and studied acting in Florida, and in 1978 he moved to Hollywood. He worked as a waiter until he
found work on a television series, Hill Street Blues.

His first important movie role was in 1987. He played a young policeman in The Untouchables (1987). He was
