A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 9

Date: February 28, 2024

Time: 10:00-12:00 AM

CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrate understanding of the unit, mole, that quantitatively
measures the number of very small particles of matter.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner should be able to analyze the percentage composition of different
brands of two food products decide on the products’ appropriate percentage composition.
LEARNING COMPETENCY
Use the mole concept to express mass of substances (S9MT-II119)
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to;
 Define mole and avogadro’s constant
 Distinguish the number of moles of a particular substance
 Recognize the application of mole concept to real life situation
II. SUBJECT MATTER

c. Instructional Materials: PowerPoint presentation, visual aids, printed materials
III. TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS/PROCEEDURES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Everybody please stand and let us
pray.
Can anyone lead the prayer?
(The volunteer student will lead the
prayer)

2. Greetings
Good morning class!
Grace Mission College

E-Mail: grace.missioncollege@yahoo.com

Good morning Ma’am!

3. Classroom Management
Please pick up the pieces of the paper
under your chairs and arrange your
seats properly

You may now seat.

Thank you Ma’am

4. Checking of Attendance
Is anyone absent today?
None Ma’am

5. Checking of Assignment
Please pass your assignment

6. Review
Okay before we start our lesson, let us
first have a review of the previous
lesson.
“Yesterday we have discussed about?”

Very good! Thank you!

B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation (Count Me In)

The teacher will show; a pair of socks,

a dozen, a ream of band paper

How many sock I am holding?

Two Ma’am
Grace Mission College
Catiningan, Socorro, Oriental Mindoro
E-Mail: grace.missioncollege@yahoo.com

And how do you call these two socks?

A pair of socks Ma’am

How about these? ( a dozen of eggs)

how many eggs do I have?
Twelve Ma’am

And how do you call it when I have 12

eggs?
A dozen off eggs Ma’am

And now I have these 500 pieces of

bond paper, how will you call it if I
have 500 pieces of bond paper.
A ream Ma,am

Okay, very good!

What do you observed from these

items?
Those items have different items used
depending on its number.

Okay! Awesome

And what do you think, will be our

lesson for today?
Unit, mole

Aha!
Pre-assessment
So to see if you have an idea of the
topic the we’ll have, I will give you a
short quiz.

MATCHING TYPE
Match column A (measuring units) to
column B (equivalent number)

Column A Column B
___1. 1 dozen of eggs a. 2
___2. 1 gross of leaves b. 20
___3. 1 ream of bond c. 144
Paper
___4.1 pair of slippers d. 24
___5. 1 quire of writing e. 500
Paper
___6. 1 score peanut seeds f. 12
Answer
1. F
2. C
3. E
4. A
5. D
6. B

2. Presentation of the Topic/Objectives

The teacher will post the objectives
for the lesson and will let the students
read it altogether

3. Discussion
A while ago, we had an activity
regarding dozen of eggs, a ream of
bond paper and a pair of socks; like
those things, these is also a fixed
amount of counting the number of
particles of substance.

The collective counting words (ie,

pair, dozen) are used as convenient

terms for often used no. of items in
everyday life.

Suppose we are at a grocery store, or

at a mall, give me some collective
words you can used when shopping.

Dozen something
Gross of……
Pair of…….
Half dozen of……
Okay so these terms are more
convenient than buying individually
which is related to our topic, mole.
Like us, the chemist finds calculations
(regarding number of atoms,
molecules, and ions) more convenient

With that, let us define mole

(the teacher will post the definition to

the board)

A mole is a unit for continuing the

number of particles, just like a dozen
(which means 12 units), a pair (which
means 2 units), a gross (which means 144
units), and a ream (which refers to 500
sheets of paper)

A mole means 602 000 000 000 000 000

000 000 (602 hexillion particles or 6.02 x
10^23 particles called the avogadro’s
number, named after Italian chemist and

physicist Amadeo Avogadro who made

study on this.who made study on this.
(the teacher will explain further)

Moreover, always remember that “one

mole”is 6.02 x 10^23 particles of any
substance. These particles include:
atoms, ions, molecules, and formula
units.
For example:
1 mole of atom all atoms = 6.02 x
10^23 atoms Au
1 mole of Na+ +1 ions= 6.02 x 10^23
ions of Na
1 mole of NaCI formula units= 6.02 x
10^23 formula units of NaCl
1 mole of CO2 molecules= 6.02 x
10^23 molecules of CO2.

Do you get it?

Is there any question? Yes Ma’am

None Ma’am
4. Application
Activity 1. Fill the Ta-Mole

1. If I have 1 mole of carbon, how

many atoms do I have?
2. If I have 1 mole of water, how
many molecules do I have?
3. If I have 1 mole of salt, how
many formula units do I have?
4. If I have 6.02 x 10^23 M and Ms,
how much candy do I have?

5. If I have 6.02 x 10^23 of French

fries, how much potato do I have?

Answer:
1. 6.02 x 10^23
2. 6.02 x 10^23
3. 6.02 x 10^23
4. 1
5. 1
5.Generalization/ Valuing
What is mole?

What is the avogadro’s constant? A unit for counting number of particles

How can you apply the mole concept in 6.02 x 10^23

your life?

When buying something from the

supermarket or at mall, we can use the
mole concept to buy something without
exactly saying a certain amount. For
example, buying a dozen of doughnuts
and a pair of shoes
6.Evaluation
Tama or Mole-I. Write true if the
statement is true and write false if the
statement is false and modify what is
correct for the sentence.

1. Mole is a unit for counting number of

particles
2. 1 mole is equivalent to 6.02 x 10^29
3. 6.02 x 10^23 is called avogadro’s
number/ constant

4. Amadeo Avogadro is an italian

chemist and physicist who made a study
on avogadro’s constant
5. 1 mole of Au atoms = 6.02 x 10^23
atoms of Au
6. A pair is equivalent ro 2 units
7. A dozen is equvalent to 500 units
8. A ream is equivalent to 12 units
9. A gross is equivalent to 144 units
10. A quire is equivalent to 24 units

Answer
1. True
2. False. 6.02 x 10^23
3. True
4. True
5. True
6. True
7. False. 12
8. False. 500
9. True
10. True
7.Assignment
Research further about the mole concept.
