Summative Assessment

Topic: Science

Standard: 2.ESS.2: Water is present in the atmosphere.

Learning objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recall each part of the water
cycle by incorporating ¾ parts of the cycle correctly on the poster.

Assessment description: The students were assessed on their ability to recall each part of the
water cycle. The students were given a poster and directions explaining what to put on the poster.
The students will have to illustrate each part of the water cycle and how they all connect together.

Rationale: The assessment aligns with the learning objective because the students have previously
been taught the water cycle and its different forms. The students had multiple formative
assessments given and thorough instruction. The activity was created to see if the students are
able to recall what they have learned to create their own version of the water cycle. The students
have to use their knowledge to illustrate and list each part of the cycle to show their understanding
of it.
Scoring Guide Description: The scoring guide is a child-friendly checklist for the students and the
educator. The checklist consists of drawing each part of the water cycle and including its specific
word in the drawing. Each box will be checked if that part is incorporated into the assessment.

Differentiation: My assessment is differentiated as Student A is a struggling writer as well as a few


other students. Instead of the students focusing on writing each word in their illustration, they will
cut and paste each word into the illustration. The student will focus more on illustrating each part
of the water cycle instead of writing each word in it.
