What happens at the Rehearsal?

GRADUATION DAY
What is the date and time of Graduation?
Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 4:00 p.m.
What time am I expected to arrive?
All Graduands must arrive at the area immediately in front of the Student Services
department no later than 1:00 p.m.
What do I do on arrival?
Proceed to Student Services Department to receive your mortar board. You then
proceed to the area identified for your faculty, which will be clearly marked. The
Marshal will guide you to your space in your faculty line. and you'll be seated in the
order as practised at the Graduation rehearsal.
What do I do after being placed in the line?
You maintain your position for the commencement of the procession of graduands. The
Marshal will provide you with your calling card.
The Registrar will invite the public orator to read the honorary graduand's citation
and present him to the Chancellor for the conferment of the Honorary Degree.
The Act of Presentation
The Registrar addresses the Chancellor asking him to receive candidates who are
qualified for degrees. The Deans will present the candidates from their faculty.
What Do I Do?
1. As the Chancellor rises to respond to the Registrar, Graduands of the Faculty of
Education will stand and follow the directives of the Marshal to the edge of the
platform in the order already established.
2. Facing the platform you move to the right, give your name card to the Marshal who
will then hand it to the Dean.
3. The Dean will announce each name. When your name is called, approach the
platform, walk to the Chancellor, shake his hand (there may be others in line),
and then proceed to the Registrar who will give you the canister in which you
will store your certificate.
What do I do after receiving the canister?
Go straight to the designated area to sign and collect your certificate. Please do not
pause to take photos or greet family and friends at this moment. You can do that after
the ceremony.

Turning of the Tassel

When the graduates of all three faculties have been presented to the Chancellor and
have returned to their seats, the Registrar will ask that they stand and move the tassel
on the mortarboard from the right to the left. Once this is completed, you will be
instructed to take your seat.

When do the Graduates recess?

When the Chancellor ends the ceremony, everyone stands and remains standing as
the Chancellor's Procession, the Academic Procession, and specially invited guests
recess. Graduates should follow the instructions of the Marshals/Ushers.

WHAT DO I DO IF I ARRIVE LATE

(i.e. AFTER THE PROCESSION OF THE GRADUANDS)?
You report to the Student Services Desk and remain there until you are escorted to the
ceremony by a designated staff member.

HOW SHOULD I DRESS FOR THE GRADUATION CEREMONY?

The required regalia for presentation to the Chancellor are the black gown, hood in the
colour of the faculty and the mortarboard, the tassel of which is to be on the right.
Dress Code – Ladies
Ladies are advised to wear modest apparel (a dress or skirt suit), which should be knee
length and complemented by stockings of an appropriate colour and black shoes.
Pants are not allowed.
Dress Code – Gentlemen
Gentlemen should be attired appropriate necktie and shoes

GRADUATE SCHOOL STUDENTS – Ladies - must wear White Dresses

Men - wear White Shirts

Please be aware that the University College can choose not to present you to the
Chancellor if you're not dressed appropriately. Inappropriate attire includes very low-
cut necklines exposing cleavages and/or those attired in garb which exposes the mid
areas of the body including navel and/or those wearing any form of head gear. Such
persons will not be presented.
